On Working From Home
I have years of experience working from home. So when I had to switch back to it, if felt like going back to the old norm. I have to say it can be very efficient, saving you lot of time commuting to and back from the office. It also can help avoiding distractions in an open office environment. But it can also have its downside if you don’t manage it properly. Below are two things that helped me stay comfortable but energized working from:
- Using a wide monitor: laptops are getting sleeker and lighter; yet the screens are getting smaller. Chances are your laptop screen is 10 to 12 inch. Working for long hours behind a small laptop screen will force you to come closer to the screen. In the process, not only you will be hurting your eyes, but you will also tilt you hear forwards and probably arch your back, which might cause back and neck problems in the long run. I recommend using a wide monitor, in the range of 24 inch. You will immediately notice the difference in terms of relaxed vision and comfortable body posture.
- Workouts: sitting for long hours working from home can have a toll on you, making you feel deenergized as the hours of the day pass . Combat that by working out for a few minutes. Just before lunch when your energy levels start declining, take a short break and start doing few exercises to strengthen your lower back and core muscles such as reverse snow angels and flutter kicks. You will immediately feel a boost in your attention. Also, make sure you are not sitting behind your desk for more than 60 continuous minutes (ideally 30 minutes). Stand up, stretch your body, walk around for a couple of minutes and then go back to your work.
