Workplace Communication
How communication can affect the flow of work in an organization.
How we communicate is essential in every aspect of our work lives. Whether making a phone call to set up an appointment, brainstorming with peers, engaging on social media, or simply taking a lunch break, communication is essential to all areas of our lives and work environment. This can affect the flow of work in several ways. First off, providing a safe environment. Secondly, effective communication increases performance. Another benefit a company might benefit from, would be team member loyalty. Lastly, many employees report a feeling of inclusion in these work environments.
A workplace that communicates more effectively establishes a “safe” place for people to think creatively and express their ideas. It helps employees feel more comfortable taking ownership for challenges and projects, and typically results in more creative brainstorming or problem-solving initiatives. This safety is what builds trust. An organization with employees who know that constructive criticism can positively affect their careers may have a stronger level of trust between employees and management. This trust can help employees feel safe in their roles, which may lead to greater team unity.

Many Studies confirm that effective communication in any business entity has a great influence in employee performance. Businesses are encouraged to maintain a good flow of information across the organization to improve employee performances and business profitability in the long run. Effective communication allows employees to get clear and definite instructions, which then enables them to act according to what is expected of them. Improvement in accountability then increases productivity in the workplace. If there is no accountability within an organization, no one will feel compelled to improve. In terms of impact on “workflow” this would be the greatest measuring stick.
Effective communication may foster feelings of respect, value and unity amongst your employees. These qualities may encourage your workers to stay loyal to your company and to find the ongoing motivation to make a difference. Having employees who regularly communicate openly with each other can improve their loyalty to a company. This can allow them to gain more trust in the organization's leadership and management style.
Another way workflow is impacted in a positive way is by promoting inclusion. Encouraging open communication makes employees feel more included. Employees who believe that their opinion is valuable to the company's management are usually more likely to offer constructive feedback. This inclusion can reduce cultural gaps between employees. Some organizations have a diverse workforce, such as having employees from many different cultures. Having these employees communicate openly with each other and with management can result in a more united workplace.
