Writers Create Group to Promote Next Generation Aviation Communicators

Aviation journalists and aviation and aerospace public relations professionals have created the 21st Century Aerospace Writers to encourage young writers to join the industry. The group is open to writers or aspiring writers who have an interest in aviation and aerospace or those in other parts of the industry who have an interest in writing or broadcasting.

“This group is designed to promote aviation and aerospace writing and broadcasting as a career,” said Flying Magazine Senior Editor Rob Mark, who founded of the group. “Just as all other workforce groups in aviation and aerospace, we will face a shortage as many of us close in on retirement. We want to provide the connections and mentorship writers and communicators need to be successful in an aviation writing career.”

Mark noted there has never been a more exciting or challenging time to cover aviation. In addition to traditional aviation and space aircraft, coverage now includes cutting-edge technologies such as commercial space transportation, unmanned aerial systems and urban mobility. Aircraft manufacturers are developing new platforms from electric to supersonic.

"The entire aviation/aerospace ecosystem is no longer about mature technologies or incremental improvements but is part of a new frontier," said Mark. "The group expects the next generation aerospace communicators to be digital natives developing new and innovative ways of communicating the aerospace stories of tomorrow."

Mark explains the new association in a recently aired podcast on what the group is hoping to achieve.

Current members have a global editorial reach and include the top aviation publications in the field, freelance and full-time aviation/aerospace journalists and editors of Flying, Air & Space, Aviation International News, NYC Aviation, Business & Commercial Aviation, Aviation Week and Space Technology, Podcasting on a Plane, Aviation News Talk, Air Traffic Management and CEO Magazine.

Marketing and public relations professionals include the General Aviation Manufacturers Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Southwest Airlines, Collins Aerospace and others.

The group also functions as a bulletin board for writing opportunities.
