YMCA of Greater Houston’s “Young Mom” TV spot Wins Best of Show at the 61st Annual American Advertising Federation-Houston ADDY Awards

The YMCA of Greater Houston’s “Young Mom” television spot took home the coveted “Best of Show” award in the broadcast category at the 61st Annual American Advertising Federation-Houston ADDY Awards. Set to a remake of the Village People’s iconic “YMCA” song, “Young Mom” illustrates a story of a young, working mom struggling to balance work and home life while raising children. The :30 second spot aims to provide hope for these young moms through its flexible after school programs that act as a home away from home for their children.

The YMCA of Greater Houston partnered with Houston-based Love Advertising  Creative and Production team along with Ell Films who shot and directed “Young Mom.” The spot is part of a larger campaign aimed to bring to life the multiple ways the Y supports individuals and families and inspire change. The uplifting spot is currently airing on Houston TV stations and cable.

“This iconic song resonates with everyone and is frequently heard at weddings and sporting events. Given that the YMCA name is highlighted in the lyrics, we felt it was time to leverage that familiarity to engage our audience in stories about our impact. I am thrilled to know that the experts in content creation see what we have created as worthy of such high recognition,”  said Stephen Ives, CEO and president, YMCA of Greater Houston. “The rewrite of the song captivates and inspires the audience allowing us to remind everyone of our purpose, strengthening the foundations of community. We are proud of our strong partnership with Love Advertising and look forward to continuing our efforts to elevate awareness of the transformational nature of our work through the YMCA of Greater Houston.”

The spot also earned four gold awards in Corporate Social Responsibility Campaign, Corporate Social Responsibility Film, Video and Sound, Internet Commercial Campaign, Local Television Commercial 30 Seconds, and three silver awards in Art Direction Single, Cinematography Campaign, and Corporate Social Responsibility Television

Just like the famous Academy Awards, the ADDY Awards is the industry’s largest and most representative competition in the United States. The competition attracts more than 40,000 entries across the country each year. The recognition of the American Advertising Awards reflects outstanding creative work and strong leadership.
