Are you hiring the right people?

Are you hiring the right people?

This was the thing on my mind all last week. We work with leading technology companies to help develop their future of work strategies, and this past week I’ve been in the middle of our Your Big Year® Global Citizens Challenge –  a virtual gathering of youth leaders from 55 different countries – with the collective goal of building positive bridges between diverse cultures.

Interestingly, as we closed our session, what stood out the most was that I’d wished every company could have seen it to witness the indescribable.

Because the youth were brilliant. They have all the qualities you, we…all of us…would want in an employee. It was the kind of group you wish was your workforce. They are confident and have self esteem. They’re intellectually curious. They’re adaptable, tolerant and collaborative.

Where do we find people like this, and how can we quickly identify those individuals who are self motivated and have an increased willingness to learn? Why are some people seemingly naturally like this while others are not?

It’s no secret. It’s cultural connection, cultural understanding.

People who have global experiences are more likely to possess the personality traits that every organization needs and desires. And statistics prove it. As reported by SYTA: Student & Youth Travel Association , they show that people who have experienced different cultures are 55% more likely to have more intellectual curiosity. Of travelers, 48% will have increased tolerance and respectfulness.

60% of those who have traveled will have an increased willingness to know, learn and explore.

Isn’t that what everyone wants?

Isn’t this part of how you want to develop your global workforce?

At International Connector , we’ve worked long and hard at building the solution to this challenge, and we’ve got something no one else offers: A program of highly engaged global youth. You’d be surprised at the magic that results, both in the discussions and in your organization.

I can attest to it because I’ve been doing it all week, well really, for many years…participating in colorful, solutions-oriented discussions that expand my knowledge. It leaves me feeling inspired and ready to change the world, right from my swivel chair. The world is out there, and so are the potential employees you are seeking.

I loved this, Marti - and I couldn't agree more! It's interesting how we have huge difficulty finding the right people to hire in certain industries at the same time there is more and more engaged, proactive, and creative youth out there. I strongly believe the role of the Internet as a multicultural bridge is at the center of this!
