Are Your Clicks Nattie Bro?
Except it's probably being asked a bit more formally than that. So what does that mean in relation to digital marketing? Well just like gym bros want to know if those muscles are natural or not, businesses want to know if those clicks are natural or not. They do this through paid search or pay-per-click (PPC), like an internet billboard. Paying for a billboard gets more visibility and helps target audiences.
Sure your website may be good, but if everyone else's websites are good how can you ensure yours gets seen? By paying Google to display it at the top of search results. Google is able to charge advertisers for each click they generate onto their advertisement, also known as cost-per-click (CPC). Advertisers are able to set something called a max bid, or the highest they're willing to shell out for one click. However as CPC varies, if it hits above the max bid then the advertisement is taken off the site as the advertiser isn't willing to pay more for the click.
Businesses use paid search to grow their online presence. They're able to track performance and you can get insight into high-level ad performance metrics including clicks, impressions, and conversions. Paid searches often have higher conversion rates due to audience targeting, and aren't hard to get into as you can easily set your budget and leave it. So what's the deal with organic versus paid searches? Below is a helpful image showcasing how they appear in search results.
Paid searches on Google feature two little letters to the left of the website link, "Ad". This means those sites have paid for Google to display their sites higher up in searches. Search result rankings can be determined based on keywords to show up for. Now that you know what to look for, see if you fall to the paid searches and count how many times you click a result that's an ad.
