Your dream is the key to your future!

Your dream is the key to your future!

On November 14, 2009, my flight landed in Orlando Florida. I was there to attend the AAGL Global Congress for the first time as a third year resident (for the second time). Having distanced myself from my shattered past, a sense of “belonging” became my quest. When I met these humble, diverse people at the congress, I knew I wanted to be part of this group. Surprisingly, it only took one such meeting to ignite in me the fire of commitment and the passion to serve this organization.

People who are drawn to AAGL see beyond walls to the possibilities on the other side. We are inspired and energized by one uniting vision: a future in which everyone has the best surgical care and the most optimal health possible. Although the problems are challenging and can seem quite daunting, we resolve to face them with optimism, grounded in rigorous science, hard work, and a relentless drive for results. AAGL is a recognized leader in MIGS, and the first place anyone, anywhere can turn to improve gynecologic surgical care through the guidance, encouragement and expertise from expert surgeons.

My vision for the AAGL is as big as my own personal vision, founded on the same dreams that allowed me to overcome hardships and inspired me to work tirelessly to encourage and educate my fellow surgeons and patients.

It includes the following:

No Boundaries

The AAGL is an organization without walls, and together, we should work as a cohesive unit sharing common knowledge, common systems and unconditional teamwork. In all we do, we adhere to the principle of “all teach, all learn.” Using this motto, we can bridge the gap between continents and countries to improve global health care and elevate gynecologic surgery. Our vision includes attracting and strengthening relationships with the most well-qualified, accomplished and respected physicians, scientists, nurses, allied healthcare professionals, and staff to become a model organization for global promotion and delivery of advanced surgical health care services.

Research

As we move towards our goal of being a world-class organization, we will support research on a global scale. We engage in research to advance knowledge and overall well-being. Our faculty will address the research needs of the learning community and grant access to many informational resources to educate scientists and health care professionals, and patients for years to come. AAGL should support the faculty needs and provide resources, such as grants and educational programs, to foster a culture of superb evidence-based clinical performance.

Innovation and Systems Thinking

We believe that every system should be perfectly designed to achieve the best results, and only through continuous innovation and improvement of these systems will we be able to make a difference in the quality of surgery and health care worldwide. Systems building starts with collecting and analyzing data to understand the needs of our members, patients, leading us to explore new horizons.

Patient Education and Advocacy

Our vision is to bring our patients into next decade of medicine through innovation and modern technology. Patient education will be enhanced through the use of computer software and educational materials that explain the value of minimally invasive surgery, helping to alleviate their fears.

Transparency

We work in the daylight. We tell the absolute truth about ourselves and our work, reporting both failures and successes with equal discipline in order to illuminate the clearest path to improving and advancing medicine and science through a strong, ongoing commitment to research and medical education.

Speed and Agility

The pace of change in health care is accelerating. We anticipate changes in our own daily practice and respond to them as quickly as necessary to ensure the positive transformation of health care.

I have always believed that the AAGL is our family; it’s our circle of strength, founded on our collective passion for minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. We are joined in faith, believing in what we practice on a daily basis. Each of us has a role in this organization. When we talk about “worker passion” or “passionate” workers, we are referring to workers who exhibit three attributes: questing, connecting, and commitment. Those three words define who I am. I would be truly honored to continue serving the AAGL as a member of the Board of Directors.
