Is Your First Flooring Choice the Best Choice? SRI Has the Answer

Oftentimes when SRI & Co. receives a call asking us to evaluate a flooring project, the customer has a very specific idea of the type of floor they want. “We want an LVT floor,” they might say, because they’ve done their research and know all the benefits luxury vinyl tile has to offer. Or perhaps they’re set on an epoxy floor, sheet vinyl, laminate, or carpet tile.

After a detailed discussion about the space and how it’s used, however, we often find that what the customer has set out to buy isn’t necessarily the best solution for their application. Many factors go into determining the proper material for a flooring project, and SRI may often recommend an alternative that's more fitting for the customer's needs.

Epoxy, for example, is frequently an excellent choice for a wide variety of commercial and industrial settings, but it isn’t always appropriate under certain conditions. Will the epoxy coating be applied over a wood subfloor? Vinyl might be a better option. Is the floor to be installed in a basement or subbasement space? Basement slabs can be highly susceptible to moisture problems and are not conducive to epoxy coatings. In high-traffic warehouses and heavy manufacturing facilities, epoxy might not hold up as well as a polished concrete floor.

Consumers are entitled to an expert, honest opinion on the best options for their specific application. Unfortunately, however, there are plenty of flooring contractors out there who don’t have the experience (or in some cases, the integrity) to properly advise customers on alternative flooring products that will better meet their requirements.

The last thing we at SRI & Co. want for our customers is buyer’s remorse. We always go the extra mile to educate our customers and ensure they have all the information necessary to make the best decision possible for their flooring projects. If you’re considering installing new floors in your commercial building or industrial facility, please contact us at 973-832-7627 to discuss your project.
