Your First Gatwick Diamond Business Event: What to Expect
Whether you’re new to gdb or new to networking entirely, we understand walking into a networking event for the first time can be daunting! But have no fear, here’s a glimpse of what you can expect from a Gatwick Diamond Business event.
1. A warm welcome
We don’t like to brag but our most common feedback from attendees is how welcoming and inclusive our events are. Whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned networker, at a gdb event you’ll be sure to find a community keen to engage with you. Our small but mighty team ensure all our members and guests feel comfortable, facilitating introductions and fostering a positive experience for everybody. We even have a fantastic group of friendly Ambassadors who will happily take you under their wing and show you the ropes.
2. Diverse mix of attendees
gdb membership boasts a dynamic mix of businesses, from start-ups to established corporates and everything in between. You can expect to meet professionals and business leaders from various sectors including manufacturing, hospitality, professional services, aviation, education and many more. You’ll receive an attendee list 2 days prior to the event – be sure to check it out and make a note of who you want to speak to.
3. Professional development
Beyond networking, gdb events often provide educational content. From our flagship conferences, Business Breakfasts and Educational Seminars we cover hot topics relevant to your business, helping you to sharpen your skills and stay ahead.

4. Social wellbeing benefits
Attending events isn’t just good for your business, it’s great for social wellbeing too! We appreciate that being a sole trader, small business owner or senior member of staff can get lonely at times. Chatting with like-minded people can help to form friendships as well as support your business growth.
5. A supportive community atmosphere
One of the highlights of our networking events is the supportive and collaborative environment. Our members come with the mindset of ‘who can I help today?’ rather than ‘who can I sell to?’ and that’s key. It helps make it easier for you to build genuine connections that can then lead to business relationships.
Attending our events is about more than just collecting business cards. It’s about engaging with a vibrant business community, gaining new insights and creating opportunities for growth. Whether you’re looking to expand your network, learn from industry leaders or profile your business – gdb’s events offer a platform to help you achieve your goals.

6moMy advice is head into these events asking questions about others rather than selling yourself first. Think about what as a business you need to buy or outsource as well as what you can provide to others. Judge success after a year rather than after one event, relationships take time to grow. We have been delighted with all the contacts we have made and we know we will be doing good business, selling and buying, that total exceeds the value of our annual membership.
I never really 'got' networking. I didn't think it would benefit my business. But Mark Vaesen introduced me to the Gatwick Diamond Business. It's been great, and helped me make some great contacts. I don't really have any advice for a newbie other than if you've made the step into this wonderful community then it's a good step. And don't forget your business cards!
