Is Your Twitter Account a Barren Wasteland?
When I manage my clients' Twitter accounts, the first thing I do is look at their history. How many tweets they've posted, how many followers they have, and if they are high quality followers.
Then, I set out to grow their audience with targeted research. I look at their competitors, industry leaders, and local influencers.
I find it interesting that there is a HUGE gap between Twitter users with little or no activity, and those with tens of thousands of followers. It seems like the majority of people with little activity once thought having a Twitter account was a good idea, only to abandon it after three or four days of tweeting! Or, they post a tweet every few weeks, thinking that they are "on Twitter". (I used to be one of them!)
The truth is, Twitter is different than all of the other social venues. It moves fast and furiously! There are many statistics measuring the shelf-life of a Tweet, but I found it is generally about 15-18 minutes. That means that if you only post once in a while, your tweets will likely NOT be viewed by the people that matter to you.
What to do?
If you're going to see success on Twitter, you're going to have to commit.
- Create a plan for posting good content, with links and images.
- Schedule your tweets to post at regular intervals (you can sign up for a cool, FREE social media dashboard, provided by my team at www.social.wordflirt.com/signup).
- Hop on Twitter live a couple times per day to interact with your audience! Engagements include: @mentions, favoriting a tweet, and re-tweeting something someone tweeted.
- Watch what the influencers and your competitors do, and mimic it with your own style.
Don't be one of those Twitter users whose account is a barren wasteland. Twitter can boost your business, your SEO, and your reputation if you use it properly.
