Nearly half of older Americans have credit card debt. AARP’s latest survey reveals that 47% of adults age 50 and older with credit card debt use credit cards for basic living expenses that they don’t have enough money to cover, with 17% of them relying on credit cards for this every month. Rising costs for essentials like food, housing, utilities, health care and unexpected financial burdens threaten financial well-being and retirement security. People who are approaching retirement may find that credit card debt impedes their ability to save. “A concerning number of older adults carry credit card debt today just to make ends meet,” says Indira Venkat, AARP Senior Vice President of Research. “Credit card debt can jeopardize retirement security. For many retirees, who often live on a fixed income, it’s a real challenge to pay down debt without significant trade-offs.” Learn more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eC8TJb45 #ccdebt #debt #olderadults

📣 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐕 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭: 𝐓𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐀𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 📣 The highly-anticipated report from our January convening is now available for all! Ageism is often seen as an issue affecting older adults, but its impact is felt at every stage of life. #CenturySummit V, hosted by the Stanford Center on Longevity and The Longevity Project in January 2025, brought together leading experts and over 2,000 attendees to explore the pervasive effects of #ageism in the U.S. and the urgent need for #intergenerational solutions. This report highlights key insights from the summit, including the economic and social costs of ageism, the intersection of age and gender discrimination, the role of media in shaping perceptions of #aging, and the importance of fostering intergenerational connections in workplaces and communities. It also outlines actionable steps toward creating a more inclusive and age-diverse society. 👀💡 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐔𝐋𝐋 𝐑𝐄𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞: https://lnkd.in/gnEq2bev #longevity #olderadults #genderdiscrimination #genderequality #agediversity #diversity #ageinclusivity Ken Stern Martha Deevy Laura Carstensen Sarah Pollock David Pagano Emma Kindsvatter Stanford University Russ Hill Barbara Waxman MS, MPA, PCC Mark T. More than 920,000 adults received Medicaid-covered nursing home care in 2022. But Medicaid also helps older adults stay in their homes and communities -- more than 1.5 million of them -- providing coverage for home care aides, adult day services, transportation, home modifications and more. A new fact sheet from the AARP Public Policy Institute breaks these numbers down, state by state: 👉 https://lnkd.in/ew7AFAKE What’s more, Medicaid program dollars have been shown to provide stability in the health care system, particularly in lowering rates of rural hospital closures. Its direct support for health care and long-term care access and reliable reimbursement rates for hospitals and providers also indirectly bolsters surrounding local economies supporting employment and financial stability. #LongTermCare #LTSS #Medicaid #RuralHealthCare #OlderAdults #States
