Want to learn more about making math content accessible? Come join three of my JHU colleagues for a presentation at Accessibility Summer Camp.
Disability Inclusion & STEMM Equity Advocate | 2024 Teach Access Fellow | Engineer, STEM Faculty, Instructional Designer at Johns Hopkins
Join us Friday, June 14 at Accessibility Summer Camp!! Mathematics is foundational to STEM fields, but the focus of accessibility efforts is typically on the written word, overlooking the information conveyed in equations. In this session, we will share background information on why disability inclusion and equitable access to math content matter for disabled STEM students and professionals. We will highlight 'math as a language,' including the visual, auditory, and symbolic content, and what course designers should consider when making math content accessible. We will provide a table of accessible math languages and tools that can serve as a decision tree for developing mathematical content for your courses. If you can't make the conference, you can read my article in Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering Faculty Forward Magazine and find recordings to our two prior workshops on math accessibility. Katie, Mel, and I were joined by Space Systems Engineering faculty Brian Bauer from The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. Inclusive Teaching - Math Accessibility https://lnkd.in/eph2p4FU Brian and I were also joined by Kelly Cooney of Hopkins Center for Staff Life Design to talk about Humanizing Online Learning for students, faculty, and staff in the spring edition. https://lnkd.in/g6aRJMKe The magazine also featured an article about my Teach Access Fellowship and why we talk to students about accessibility!! Hint - an inclusive engineering future begins with an inclusive engineering education! https://lnkd.in/gd6sR8Y6 #STEMEquity #DisabilityInclusion #MathMatters #2024TeachAccessFellow
