Improving reproductive and maternal health outcomes can have a positive impact on families and may even mitigate Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and toxic stress later in life. Strong Start & Beyond is a movement started by California Surgeon General Dr. Diana Ramos to reduce California’s maternal mortality rate 50% by December 2026. The focus is on fostering awareness, encouraging active participation in health, and building access to resources for mothers, pregnant people, and their families. October 23 marked the beginning of #RedRibbonWeek, the largest drug abuse prevention campaign in the country, which highlights the importance of living a drug-free life. In North America, 41% of illicit drug use is attributable to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), one of the many reasons ACEs Aware trains health care teams and communities to prevent, identify, and respond to ACEs and toxic stress.
