About us

The American Enterprise Institute’s Academic Programs team connects colleges and universities with AEI’s ideas and networks. We seek the renewal of healthy civic engagement on college campuses by facilitating educational and professional opportunities for students and faculty, such as the Collegiate Network and the Summer Honors Program. The AEI Collegiate Network is an intellectual home for current undergraduates to engage with AEI scholarship, connect with AEI scholars, and cultivate relationships with other public-spirited students from campuses around the nation and world. Students in the network have the opportunity to host AEI scholars for events on campus; attend exclusive conferences in Washington, DC; interview scholars on the Campus Exchange podcast; and more! The AEI Summer Honors Program is an intensive, fully-funded educational and professional development opportunity for top undergraduate students in Washington, DC. This one week program is centered on daily seminars led by AEI scholars and distinguished civic leaders, and is often completed in conjunction with summer internships or fellowships. Alumni of the Summer Honors Program are automatically accepted into the AEI Collegiate Network. In addition, we frequently host summits and seminars specific to particular topics and audiences. Examples include the Appalachian Policy Summit, Weekend Honors Programs, and the First Generation Student Forum.

It's the end of an exellent week spent at the American Enterprise Institute, taking a seminar on Freedom, Progress and Tradition with Dr Yuval Levin. So grateful for the deep and insightful conversations had regarding the importance of gradual, incremental change; and on the ways in which the American tradition of freedom allows for full human flourishing. It's not every day that one finds a place so welcome to the discussion of ideas. Big thank you to Lauren Collins, Catherine Gangemi, Riley Millburne and all the rest of the AEI Academic Programs team for their endless work in putting this together. I would encourage anyone who is interested in having serious conversations on big ideas to apply for the Summer Honors Program next year!

Earlier this month, I had the incredible opportunity to go to Washington, D.C., and participate in the American Enterprise Institute week-long Summer Honors Program “The American Dream Is Not Dead: Principles & Practices of Democratic Capitalism” with Dr. Michael Strain. Throughout the week, we discussed the principles underlying controversial economic debates including stagnant wages, a declining middle class, national debt, health care, free enterprise, and the morality of markets. It was truly inspiring to discuss challenging economic questions with a diverse set of students. For me, the social security debate remains one of the highlights. Thank you to the AEI team Walker Wright and Lauren Collins for creating such a meaningful week and organizing incredibly thought-provoking guest speakers and a site visit to the U.S. Congressional Joint Economic Committee. Spending the week at AEI is something I will forever be grateful for.

Grateful for the opportunity to spend last week participating in the Summer Honors Program at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington D.C. My seminar, on National Identity and Foreign Policy with Dr. Paul Miller, deepened my understanding of what it means to be an American, and cemented my belief that the U.S. needs to maintain its global leadership to foster a climate of liberty for ourselves and the rest of the world. Huge thanks to AEI for giving me this opportunity.

Earlier this month, I had the honor of participating in the American Enterprise Institute Summer Honors Program titled “Understanding the Middle East Challenge”. This was an incredible week-long seminar that introduced seminal works in both theory and policy and raised questions to the root causes of the current Middle East conflicts why they are so enduring, and the roots of terrorism. I can confidently say I ended the course with a well-rounded understanding of historical and political trends that have prolonged regional volatility. A tremendous thank you to Dr. Michael Rubin for sharing his expertise and for creating such a phenomenal syllabus of guest speakers and site visits to the State Department and Al-Arabiya News. Thank you to Juan Rey-Rubio for being a great staff-contact and ensuring all the events were able to happen. Lastly, thank you to the entire American Enterprise Institute Academic Programs team for their hospitality and for a meaningful and impactful week of interdisciplinary education.

I had the privilege to go to our nation's capital last week and take part in a full-fledged, week long course dedicated to unpacking the notions of leisure, freedom, and liberal arts education. The university is a space to detach one's self from the worries of the world and indulge in a love for a variety of disciplines. This is done by engaging with a community of scholars whose perspectives reveal to us our innate propensity to seek knowledge. It is only by channeling into our interests and surrounding ourselves with others who share different viewpoints and specializations that we can ultimately achieve the path to the freedom of the intellectus. Thank you to the American Enterprise Institute for being so personal with its collegiate network and making it known that we have this intellectual haven in D.C. A special thank you to David D. Corey, Elizabeth Corey for guiding us through this seminar on leisure and to Lauren Collins for consistently attending to our group.

I am beyond grateful to have attended the 2024 Summer Honors Program this past week at the American Enterprise Institute!🎉 This program provided me the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions surrounding public policy with fellow students from across the country and globe while deepening my knowledge on America’s safety net and its impact on poverty. A special thanks to Angela Rachidi for delving into the intricacies of the current welfare system and inviting our class to hear her testify at the Oversight Congressional Hearing addressing SNAP and nutritious foods.

Last week I had the wonderful opportunity to partipate in the Summer Honors Program at American Enterprise Institute! In a course on globalization, my cohort and I were able to discuss topics such as U.S. immigration, international trade, and capital flows. Between seminar discussions, lunch lectures, and site visits, it truly was an enriching and engaging experience. Thank you to Stan Veuger for thoughtfully leading our course and providing insight on complex topics, and to Allie Mast for skillfully managing the academic programming for our cohort!

Earlier this month, AEI's Academic Programs partnered with the Hamilton Center for Classical and Civic Education to host our annual Spring Summit. Over 40 graduating seniors from AEI's Collegiate Network joined University of Florida students and faculty to hear from a variety of scholars on pertinent issues of higher education, civil discourse, and American national security. Panelists included Hamilton Center director Will Inboden, as well as Jonah Goldberg, Ben Storey, and Danielle Pletka of the American Enterprise Institute. We are grateful for the hospitality and inspiring educational vision of our partners at the Hamilton Center, and for each Collegiate Network senior who joined us in Gainesville for their final AEI conference as an undergraduate.
