Airbnb.org’s mission is to unlock the power of sharing space, resources, and support in times of crisis. Together, Airbnb.org & Airbnb have helped connect over 300,000 people with temporary stays during environmental and humanitarian crises. This has included refugees and asylum seekers fleeing Ukraine and Afghanistan, people displaced by the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria, people impacted by the fires on Maui, and so many others. Six things to know about Airbnb.org: ✅ The work started under Airbnb's Open Homes program in 2012; it transitioned to Airbnb.org, an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in December 2020 ✅ Airbnb.org guests never pay for their Airbnb.org stays. ✅ We work with nonprofits and government agencies who refer guests to Airbnb.org and may provide many other forms of support during a stay. ✅ More than 92,000 Hosts in 189 countries and regions have signed up to be Airbnb.org Hosts. Look for the “Airbnb.org Supporter” badge on their profiles. ✅ Recurring donations from Airbnb Hosts provide a significant portion of our funding. ✅ Airbnb, Inc. covers Airbnb.org’s operational costs, so 100% of donations go toward supporting our nonprofit partners and covering the cost of temporary stays.

Non-profit Organizations
Airbnb.org facilitates temporary stays for people impacted by humanitarian and environmental crises around the world.
About us
Our mission is to unlock the power of sharing space, resources, and support in times of crisis. The inspiration for Airbnb.org began in 2012 with a single Airbnb Host named Shell who opened up her home to people impacted by Hurricane Sandy and started a movement to provide free, temporary stays with Airbnb Hosts. That movement became Airbnb.org. Airbnb.org is a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting people impacted by large-scale crises to free, temporary stays with the support of Hosts and organizations around the world. Airbnb.org is a separate and independent entity from Airbnb, Inc. and leverages Airbnb, Inc.’s technology, services, and other resources at no charge to carry out Airbnb.org’s charitable purpose. Airbnb, Inc. does not charge service fees for Airbnb.org-supported stays on its platform.

Just a few days are left to join the Refugee Pride: 365 movement, just like our incredible partners at Airbnb.org! 💚 Our grant partners enable ORAM to protect, empower, and advocate for LGBTIQ refugees worldwide. ORAM first teamed up with Airbnb.org in 2022, shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine, to provide safe and secure housing for LGBTIQ Ukrainian refugees. Last year alone, ORAM provided over 4,000 nights of safe housing to over 200 LGBTIQ refugees from Ukraine, thanks to Airbnb.org's unwavering support. The success of this short-term housing program was the catalyst for launching an emergency housing initiative for LGBTIQ refugees in Nairobi, Kenya. Thank you to Airbnb.org for your year-round commitment to protecting LGBTIQ refugees and asylum seekers. You, too, can join Airbnb.org to make a lasting difference by joining the Refugee Pride: 365 movement: https://buff.ly/3xrQAqK

We are so grateful to support HIAS in their life-changing work across Latin America 💛
"It's really comforting for us as a family to help people." Since 2018, HIAS has collaborated with Airbnb.org, and its predecessor program, Airbnb Open Homes, to provide emergency accommodation to refugees, asylum seekers and other people in need of a welcoming place to stay. In the last six years, the program has supported close to 60,000 people in Guatemala, the U.S., Ecuador, Poland, Colombia, Peru, and Guyana. In Guatemala, HIAS works with carefully selected hosts to make sure that participants are protected, comfortable and settled into their place. For Airbnb superhost Jorge* and his family, providing his apartment to people in need has brought unexpected benefits to their lives. “We want to help them, and we want them to forget about everything that they’ve gone through for a while. I want my children to grow up and learn about the importance of helping others. They accompany my wife and I in this entire process.” From the beginning of the program until May 2024, 136 people across Guatemala received emergency accommodation thanks to the partnership. https://lnkd.in/g8FtXgnW

We're proud to spotlight our ongoing work across Latin America in partnership with HIAS. This work wouldn't be possible without the generosity of Airbnb hosts, who so often go above and beyond to provide a sense of care and connection for refugees and asylum seekers in their communities. For Airbnb Superhost Jorge and his family, providing his apartment to people in need of accommodation has brought unexpected benefits to their lives. “It’s really comforting for us as a family to help people,” he said. “We want to help them, and we want them to forget about everything that they’ve gone through for a while. One year ago, a devastating fire displaced thousands of residents in Maui. To support relief efforts, we teamed up with Governor Green and nonprofits, including Maui Rapid Response, Catholic Charities USA, Cajun Navy Relief, All Hands and Hearts, Operation Blessing, and Global Empowerment Mission to provide free, temporary housing for people who lost their homes. In total, Airbnb.org and Airbnb have provided more than 97,500 nights of temporary housing for approximately 3,000 displaced Maui residents in local Airbnb listings. All stays were completely free for guests and were funded by Airbnb.org donors, the generosity of Airbnb hosts — many of whom offered their homes for free or at a discount through Airbnb.org — and the state. Learn more about Maui’s ongoing recovery efforts and Airbnb.org’s support in the report below 🌺 https://lnkd.in/g75hQwZZ
