AMA STEPS Forward® reposted this
Earlier this month, I had an incredible 'fireside chat' with American Medical Association's Head of digital innovation, Margaret Lozovatsky, MD, FAMIA at the premier global #physicianwellbeing conference, the International Conference of Physician Health in Nova Scotia. In the United States, nearly all hospital c-suites are developing their AI strategies, and many countries are looking to us as the innovators to follow. Key points: - AI will not replace clinicians, but over the next few years a majority of clinicians will use AI in their practice - Governance is key - we need physician thought leaders alongside our IT colleagues to bring in AI and monitor its safe use down the line - Start with the low-risk use cases where AI can draft content to curb administrative work: note documentation support (like Abridge), chart summarization and in-basket message response Most interesting to me is the role large associations like Canadian Medical Association, AMA and British Medical Association (the conference hosts) can play. As in this conference - giving physicians a foundation to understand new technologies and current uses is huge. I am eager to see how organized medicine helps build buy-in for AI, from its member clinicians to shaping policy at the highest levels
