Media coverage of AI often fails to distinguish between hype and reality. This leads to public misconceptions that can fuel unnecessary fears or unrealistic hopes about these tools. To help the rising generation think critically about AI reporting, we've just published a media literacy lesson plan geared toward high school and junior college students. This educational resource is designed to equip students for an AI-driven world by fostering a deeper understanding of how AI is portrayed and interpreted in the media. It includes a comprehensive set of resources: * A materials list * Resource links * Detailed instructions * A sample presentation * Conversation starters * Assessment guidelines * A vocabulary guide In the spirit of open access, we welcome educators and anyone to use, repurpose, and expand on this work. Access the “Interpreting AI in the News” lesson plan: https://lnkd.in/gSWHXCYf #ArtificialIntelligence #MediaLiteracy #Education #Teachers

As Senior Citizens Day comes to a close, we're calling on technologists, policymakers, and nonprofit leaders to consider how they can improve digital equity for the 10s of millions of older adults across the US. Left unchecked, the speed at which technology develops can exacerbate "digital ageism," the lack of diverse representation of older individuals in the design, development, and marketing of digital tools and their algorithms. Yet, a significant amount of catching up is needed before older adults are thoughtfully integrated into the development and deployment of new technologies. To identify and start filling in the gaps, we recently brought together experts to discuss building trust, identifying responsibilities, and defining terminology. Our team's Shanthi Bolla provides the highlights in a new article. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/g8MXgUX2 Want to know how your organization can foster digital equity for older adults? We've published a playbook for tech companies, community leaders, and policymakers. It offers a comprehensive approach to serving diverse aging communities. Tech advancements have led to an explosion in #data generation. Currently, these data are rarely made available to those who might benefit from them most. How can we rebalance the scales? Our Council for a Fair Data Future has offered a new strategic insight and solution. Keep reading to learn more. Data are often produced without the knowledge, consent, or control of its subject. We need to ensure that data benefits individuals and communities, not just investors and data-dealers. That’s where the Council for a Fair Data Future comes in. This group of 25 leaders and experts from across the data-driven economy has identified solutions to empower every community. Here’s their strategic insight: #philanthropy plays a critical role in unlocking datasets for the greater good. Because it fuels and influences the work of #nonprofits, and nonprofits generate and collect a lot of data. These data are produced as work gets done – whether it be #research, #development, or service-delivery – and they often provide insights on specific populations. Using a simple tool already available to them, grant agreements, philanthropists can help lead toward a more fair data future.
