Reaction Dynamics and Southern Launch announce at #IAC2024 the development and launch of a new hybrid rocket engine by a Montreal-based manufacturer. The engine, which can burn for up to two minutes, is a significant innovation in rocket propulsion. The first launch of this engine is aiming to achieve a world-first hybrid rocket engine burn in space. The mission will involve a two-stage orbital vehicle, with the rocket reaching 75 kilometers in altitude. The Koonibba Test Range in South Australia, a 41,000 square kilometer area, will facilitate the launch and recovery operations, aimed for early September 2025. The project is supported by the Canadian Space Agency | Agence spatiale canadienne, which has funded $2 million for its development and will be submitted for approval to the Australian Space Agency.
