  • In a powerful display of collaboration across nations and sectors, Dr Rowland Illing, Chief Medical Officer at Amazon Web Services (AWS), recently represented #AWS at the QUAD meeting to discuss leveraging technology for improved cancer care. 💡 This high-level gathering, which included leaders from Australia, India, Japan, and the USA, explored ways to enhance cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. AWS's inclusion underscored the potential of cloud computing, AI, and open data access to save and improve lives, especially for underserved communities. 🌎 From facilitating better data sharing to find cures for fatal childhood brain tumors, to expanding teleoncology care access in Africa, and using genomic data to understand disease progression patterns, AWS is grateful to be a part of critical initiatives like the Cancer Moonshot. We remain committed to fostering vital cross-industry partnerships that advance healthcare through cutting-edge solutions. 🏥 🤝

It was an honor to represent Amazon and Amazon Web Services (AWS) at the QUAD meeting in Delaware with the President of the USA, Joseph Biden, Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida Fumio to discuss how the private sector supports improved cancer care, particularly around cervical cancer in the Indo-Pacific region. The inclusion of Amazon/AWS in this and other Cancer Moonshot efforts highlights the power of cloud, AI, and access to open data sets in saving and improving lives—particularly for underserved communities. I’m proud of the repeated recognition of AWS by the The White House in the work our teams are doing to better prevent, detect, and treat cancer—whether that’s better data sharing to find a cure for fatal childhood brain tumors, expanded access to teleoncology care in Africa, or using genomic data to understand patterns in disease progression. This small group setting allowed 1:1 conversations with President Biden, Prime Ministers Modi and Fumio, and Kevin Rudd, former Prime Minister of Australia. It was a pleasure to meet senior leaders in cancer care from around the world including Dr Lynn Schuchter, President of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO); Prof. Dorothy Keefe, CEO of Cancer Australia; Prof. Hiroyuki Mano, Director of the Research Institute of the National Cancer Centre of Japan; Dr. Sangar Sengupta, Director of the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics in India and the extended Indian delegation; Bob Li, Medical Oncologist ad VP of Global Health affairs at MSKCC; Keisuke Shirai, Professor of Medical Oncology at Dartmouth; Kazuaki Takabe, Professor of breast surgery at Roswell Park; Sen. Christopher Coons (D-DE); Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE); Eric Garcetti, US Ambassador to India; Neil Buddy Shah, CEO of the Clinton Health Access Initiative; Felice Gorordo, US Alternate Director of the World Bank; Dr Lucas de Toca PSM, Ambassador for Global Health for the Australian Government; Joanne Manrique, Co-Chair of the Women's Health & Economic Empowerment Network, and Tom Polen, CEO and president of BD. Kudos to the many Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers and field teams for the recognition from the highest levels of governments around the world on the work you are doing to address humanity’s most pressing health care challenges by driving innovations and enhancing access to treatment. Finally, huge thank you to Danielle Carnival, PhD and Catharine Young, Ph.D. for driving the Cancer Moonshot program, and Ben Moscovitch for spearheading AWS engagement with The White House on this effort.
