Elevating Partnership with Innovative Solutions! Coldharbour Tiles, BASF Plastic Additives and the BASF Scouting Academic & Collaboration team in Switzerland have been cooperating to increase the use of recycled plastics while maintaining top performance. Together, we tried to give a new life to degraded fishing nets, enhancing their value through improved processability and protection. The luxury eco-tiles from Coldharbour Tiles adorn the kitchen walls of the recently inaugurated STEP2 UNIT at NEST. Produced from recycled fishing nets, these tiles underscore the commitment from both companies to sustainability and innovation. Located within Empa's and Eawag’s NEST module research and innovation building in Dübendorf, the STEP2 unit showcases the collective vision of industry partners like BASF. Together, we are shaping a future of sustainable living and gaining insights into the impact of the built environment on people. Let's continue elevating partnership through innovation, creating a brighter, sustainable future together! On September 22, Brazil celebrated Banana Day! 🍌 Brazil is the world’s fourth largest producer of this fruit, producing about 7 million tons per year. However, banana growers face significant challenges in cultivation, such as Tripes control. To help banana growers, BASF’s plastic additives team has developed innovative technologies to increase the profitability and sustainability of banana farming. One of these innovations is an anti-insect plastic bag that is applied at the beginning of banana flowering, wraps around the bunch and remains in place until harvest. This bag contains an anti-UV additive that filters the light of the same wavelength as that seen by the tripes, confusing them when they enter the bag and preventing damage to the bananas. This initiative allows banana growers to effectively manage the pest and disease challenges, improve fruit quality and increase grower profitability. Let's celebrate Banana Day and the positive effect this technology is bringing to increase the production of this fruit. Did you know that floating pontoons, kayaks, and even water tanks all need sun protection? 🌞💧 These items are made of plastics that can get damaged when exposed to prolonged sunlight. Adding light stabilizers and antioxidants can help them last longer, preventing them from becoming brittle or losing their color.
