About us
Better Plants, part of the US Department of Energy’s Better Buildings initiative, helps manufacturers, supply chains, public water and wastewater utilities, and other industrial organizations drive energy efficiency and reduce solid waste and water use with technical support, networking platforms, recognition, and access to innovation. Better Plants partners voluntarily set an energy savings goal, typically to reduce energy intensity by 25% over a 10-year period portfolio-wide. Partner successes are recognized on the Better Buildings Solution Center, as well as on social media, at events, in print, and more.

The NAEM EHS & Sustainability Management Forum for Environment, Health, and Safety, and Sustainability (EHS&S) is wrapping up and it has been great. The #BetterPlants session yesterday was packed and was led by Andrew Whitlock, CEM, PMP, Industrial Sustainability Specialist for DOE IEDO. It featured great insights from Derrick Dease, Director of ESG Implementation at Holcim, and Tamara Cook, Sustainability Director at Leggett & Platt sharing how U.S. Department of Energy free programs and resources helped their organizations reduce their emissions and evaluate decarbonization projects to reach their climate goals. It ended with a panel discussion where Dr. Dipti Kamath and Kiran Thirumaran from Oak Ridge National Laboratory joined them to share advice and best practices.
