Boosting the immunomodulatory and regenerative activity of extracellular vesicles: in their latest work, Aina Areny Balagueró, Antonio Artigas at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and collaborators explored lipopolysaccharide priming of mesenchymal stem cells as a strategy to enhance the therapeutic potential of EVs for treating acute lung injury, aiming to amplify their natural immunomodulatory and regenerative effects https://lnkd.in/eUCV-X9b They observed that, in vitro, lipopolysaccharide-primed EVs enhanced wound healing and reduced the inflammatory response caused by P. aeruginosa infection, promoting the M2 macrophage phenotype. In vivo, lipopolysaccharide-EVs, unlike control EVs, significantly reduced neutrophil infiltration and myeloperoxidase activity in lung tissue.
