Some challenges are bigger than one property, one neighborhood, one community or even one state. #Brownfields conferences are a fantastic way to share information, ideas, and case studies where some of the best in the industry explain how they solved complex problems. MassDEP is an enthusiastic supporter of NORTHEAST WASTE MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS' ASSOCIATION (NEWMOA). Our team joined other agency and industry leaders and professionals from across New England for NEWMOA’s Revitalizing New England Brownfields Summit, in late spring, to share ideas on redeveloping and revitalizing our communities. Here are our key takeaways from this important conference.

It was a great event in Turners Falls to celebrate teamwork and collaboration between the Town of Montague, MA, FRANKLIN REGIONAL COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), MassDEP, MassDevelopment, and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. The funding from the US EPA and DCR will be transformative for this historic mill community. The MassDEP Bureau of Waste Site Cleanup is glad to partner with the Town to keep this project moving forward. Thank you to Caprice Gardner Shaw and Mike Gorski for the strong support from MassDEP's Western Regional Office.
What's new in the Town of Montague, MA? Commissioner Heiple and MassDEP team joined US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Regional Administrator Cash, U.S. Senator Ed Markey and others at Turner Falls to celebrate nearly $5M in EPA Brownfields grant funding (via the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law) for the cleanup of the former #StrathmoreMill complex. Also celebrated was the $2M Community-Wide Assessment grant awarded to MassDEP. This grant will assist the Department in supporting a greater range of #Brownfields assessment and redevelopment by providing technical and financial resources to make Brownfields assessment a statewide priority. 📷 David Foss (MassDEP) #InvestingInAmerica #BipartisanInfrastructureLaw #Brownfields #redevelopment #revitalization #Massachusetts

Maine isn't just "Vacationland," it's also a place where #Brownfields #Redevelopment makes a real difference in the lives of residents! Here's a brownfields success story from Berwick, Maine. This type of development project creates benefits to the economy, environment, and health of the entire region. Read more to learn about the transformation of a former tannery into mixed-use development that is revitalizing the heart of a small New England town. P.S. Thanks to Brownfields funding from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), if you are traveling (through any of the 10 EPA Regions) during your summer vacation, you can see Brownfields Redevelopment from sea to shining sea! https://lnkd.in/eZM8D9in
