*FCCU Presentation Spotlight at RefComm Galveston* Operational Shutdown Bookends: The Next Frontier of Turnaround Optimization, by Josh Morgan of CruzAlta ▶ Register at www.refcomm.com In this presentation, the speaker will provide insights into industry-wide innovations and practices that are delivering exponential value and shaping the future for manufacturing plant performance. Specifically focused on the reduction of refinery downtime and turnaround duration, this session will combine compelling data, predictive analytics, global reach, and industry knowledge leadership to inspire participants to think differently and confidently about embracing organizational technological, capacity, and capability innovations - to sustainably deliver predictably competitive performance. The presentation leverages centuries of global experience in upstream, midstream, and downstream energy markets, specialty and commodity chemicals, mining, and adjacent industries; and will include data derived from a proprietary database of shutdown performances, most specifically in the refining and ethylene industries. From practical solutions that can be implemented immediately, to rapidly emerging tangible methodologies and technologies, to “blue sky” concepts that will dramatically shift the future state of most refining operating facilities, the information presented in this session will be universally applicable regardless of your starting point. Whether your pain point is disengaged leadership, underdeveloped methodology, pervasive conservatism, indecisiveness, risk aversion or the Great Resignation-induced lack of experience, the data, solutions and thought leadership explored during this topic will provide context and consideration for a transformative future. About Josh: Josh Morgan serves as Director of Strategic Development for CruzAlta. With over two decades of industrial experience, he has a wealth of knowledge and wisdom in the refining turnaround industry. He has held both Operational and Turnaround Management leadership roles for the world's largest petrochemical manufacturer. During his tenure as an operations and turnaround leader, he led teams of manufacturing professionals in the successful planning, executing and completion of over 55 turnaround, outage and capital construction events. Through his years of experience, he gained a strong understanding and a passion for the refining industry. Josh is driven by the mission to actively promote our services and capabilities, with the aim of providing invaluable support to our clients in their turnaround management endeavors. **** FCCU Presentation Spotlight • RefComm Galveston **** Utilizing robotics and drones to drive safe, efficient, and cost-effective inspections in hazardous, inhospitable, and inaccessible plant systems and components by Ron Kessler, MBA of Team Industrial Services Direct visual testing (VT) is a nondestructive testing technique utilized for surface inspection and evaluation. The specifications of direct visual inspection are defined as placing the eye within 24 inches (600mm) of the surface to be examined, at an angle of not less than 30 degrees, supported by a white light source with a minimum intensity of 100fc (1000 lux). For many industries, direct visual testing presents formidable challenges, as the costs to access the examination area are prohibitively expensive and inherently dangerous, hence the advent of Remote Visual Inspection (RVI). Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) employs the use of remote operated camera systems including video probes, tube cameras, robotic crawlers, pan tilt zoom (PTZ) cameras, uncrewed aerial systems (UASs/drones), and submersible remote operated vehicles (ROVs). The remote nature of the data capture, sophistication of the tooling and skill of the inspector drives safe, efficient, and cost-effective inspections in hazardous, inhospitable, and inaccessible plant systems and components. Moreover, many of these inspection instruments may be deployed with a wide array of payloads delivering manipulators, cleaning apparatuses, and varying sensor technologies to encompass a broader range of mission parameters. Modern RVI tools are exceptionally well-suited for a wide variety of inspection tasks across a broad range of applications. These tools are becoming increasingly capable of capturing a myriad of inspection data while providing a significant reduction in peripheral inspection cost such as scaffolding, insulation removal, and confined space entry. The reduction or, oftentimes, elimination of these supporting activities also optimizes the safety profile of the examination by reducing labor and minimizing high risk activities. This presentation will provide an overview of RVI tools and applications and feature an inspection of FCC cyclones and diplegs. ***FCCU Presentation Spotlight at RefComm Galveston*** The FCC Unit is a workhorse and huge financial contributor at most refineries, and keeping it running efficiently is a major goal. There are certain spray nozzle and injector applications that can contribute to that efficiency if done properly and if spray technology is better understood. This presentation will look at Water Wash, Regenerator Off-Gas Quench, Torch Oil, and Slurry Backflush while discussing some common issues and methods to potentially improve performance that may lead to increased reliability and safety. Corrosion in the Oil Refineries is a costly concern, and controlling or mitigating the corrosion can make the difference between keeping a unit operating until the next planned outage or having to shut down prematurely. Maintaining the operating equipment so that damage is averted or minimized is also affected by spray nozzle performance. Presented by Chuck Munro of Spraying Systems Co. Mr. Chuck Munro has 30 years of experience with Spraying Systems Company assisting customers to solve problems with spray nozzle solutions. He is an active member of several industry groups, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, AMPP (formerly NACE), and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers where he has been involved with training, consultation, and application support. Currently Chuck focuses on the business development of the oil and gas and sulfuric acid industries while working to help these industries recognize ways to optimize performance, while increasing reliability and sustainability with new technologies and proven solutions.
