Join us tomorrow evening as we explore recent breakthroughs in understanding anxiety — and how this could revolutionize the way we care for the millions affected by anxiety disorders. Having coined the most recent diagnostic definition of anxiety, Dr. Rachel Klein and her proteges will discuss how their pioneering research has opened the door for next-generation approaches that are poised to redefine treatments and improve outcomes. The presentations will be followed by a roundtable discussion moderated by Caroline Hyde, host of Bloomberg Technology, with experts in psychiatry, neuroscience, and digital therapeutics. This virtual event will be recorded and shared with all registrants. Register here: https://lnkd.in/en7RJRUS

Unlocking the secrets of the developing brain. Speeding the pace of discovery through open science and data-sharing.
About us
We have designed our research at the Child Mind Institute to change the way the world understands and treats children struggling with mental health and learning disorders. Our research teams work every day on pioneering studies that advance the science of the developing brain — and that shorten the distance between research and care to open new possibilities for children, families and communities. The key to helping children who struggle with mental health and learning disorders is to advance our understanding of the developing brain. When we have a picture of how the brain develops and communicates among regions, we will be able to better identify when it isn’t working properly. Creating a “map” of the brain and its connections will open up the treatment of childhood mental health disorders to the full power of scientific innovation.

Anxiety is the most common mental health concern worldwide, yet treatment options historically have lagged behind other disorders. After a years-long drought, innovative treatments — including a new type of brain stimulation and an LSD derivative — are available to patients. But how promising are they, and what are the implications for patients? Join us next week as Dr. Rachel Klein and her proteges discuss their pioneering work, which fundamentally changed our understanding of anxiety and led to today’s emerging therapeutic approaches. Following the talks, Caroline Hyde, host of Bloomberg Technology, will moderate our panel of experts as they examine the advantages and drawbacks of cutting-edge treatments such as brain stimulation, virtual reality, and psychedelics. Please Note: Continuing medical education (CME) credits for psychiatrists and continuing education (CE) credits for psychologists and social workers are available to registered participants.

“Look at the kid and not the phone." Parents have rushed to concerns about screen usage and social media, which, while important, cannot tell us the full story. Social media and technology can have benefits and risks, and it’s important parents look at how their child is doing holistically. This clip is from our social media webinar, Beyond the Hype: What Research Tells Us About Social Media’s Role in Youth Mental Health, where experts gathered for a roundtable discussion on what the research says about the perils and promise of social media for our kids. The youth mental health crisis has many causes, but one rising concern is technology. To address this, the Child Mind Institute and Kaggle have launched a competition using deidentified data from the Child Mind Institute Healthy Brain Network study to develop a predictive model that can identify early signs of problematic internet use (PIU) in young people using physical activity and fitness measures. The competition, sponsored by Dell Technologies and NVIDIA, launched on September 19th and will run for 3 months. This effort aims to create tools for clinicians to better understand and manage PIU.
