CKLDP is a program that helps train and nurtures the next generation of leaders.
About us
Beginning in 2013, the AIA|DC chapter undertook an initiative to develop a program that would help train and nurture the next generation of leaders. With the success of the previous program years, the Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Program looks to secure a promising new faction of scholars in 2024. The year-long program consists of nine individual half-day sessions attended by a competitively selected group of 16 emerging professionals (an emerging professional is defined as someone who has graduated from college with an architecture degree and is within 10 years of their first licensure). Prospective participants must go through an application process for selection where proven career success, community involvement, and the individual’s firm support will be considered.

Some highlights from Session 7: Emerging Issues & the Future of the Practice. In Act 01: Deniz E Arslan, a Computational Designer at HKS, Inc. whose work focuses on research, design, and development, led the session with a presentation exploring the possibilities of AI in architectural practice. The discussion included various ways to leverage AI, such as using it in conceptual diagrams, mapping non-linear timelines, identifying hazards in projects, and conducting building performance simulations. The importance of understanding how information is processed through networks and algorithms—and the complexities of these processes—was emphasized. Issues related to AI, such as bias, were also examined. Deniz also discussed how HKS utilizes AI through its work in the LINE studio and the role of the AIA Large Firm Roundtable in exploring how AI can be integrated into architectural practice. In Act 02, scholars heard from Alexander Briseño, a regional lead for HKS, Inc. Alex began the session with the thought-provoking questions: “What is innovation?” and “How do we establish the conditions for innovation to occur?” He emphasized the roles of curiosity, collaboration, and consistency in fostering innovation, highlighting the importance of involving people with diverse perspectives in the innovation process. Scholars were encouraged to ask, “Who is not in the room?” and to find ways to bring those perspectives into the conversation. Alex led two workshops during this session: the first focused on facilitating diverse perspectives, and the second centered on strategy and collaboration. #economy #industrytrends #architecture #stratergies #technologies #ai #resiliency #futureofarchitecture #change #ckldpdc2023 #aiadc #aia #designleaders #emergingleaders #designyourfuture #washingtondc
