  • Earlier this week, the Hitchcock Center for Women held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new 77,000-square-foot residential treatment and recovery facility. Leaders from Cleveland Clinic, the State of Ohio, the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County participated in the event at the center’s Ansel Road campus in the Glenville neighborhood. Funding for the Hitchcock Center for Women's expansion, and support programs, comes from the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board of Cuyahoga County, Cleveland Clinic, the City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County and the Finch Group. "Cleveland Clinic is committed to supporting initiatives that help improve the lives of our community members, including addressing social determinants of health which are often impacted by substance abuse,” said Vickie Eaton Johnson, Chief Community Officer at Cleveland Clinic. Established in 1978 by Jayne Mazzarella, a nurse and addiction prevention advocate, the Hitchcock Center for Women is one of the oldest drug rehabilitation programs for pregnant and parenting women in the country. What began as a 10-bed women’s half-way house, has blossomed into a comprehensive residential treatment center staffed by a multidisciplinary team of licensed clinicians, counselors and social workers. In June, Misty's Wish donated a bench to Cleveland Clinic Children’s that was placed in the Hospital for Rehabilitation’s courtyard. Thank you, Misty's Wish for this generous donation for our patients and their families! #clevelandclinic #GivingDoesGood

  • Only one in three African Americans who need mental health care receives it, according to the American Psychiatric Association. Faced with a persistent stigma around mental illness, Black communities suffer disproportionately from social and economic barriers that can lead people to avoid or delay seeking treatment. Determined to help reverse these troubling trends, Cleveland Clinic therapist Mary Louise Tatum, CNP, has launched a grassroots program aimed at bridging the gap between high-quality psychological care and the unmet mental health needs of Black communities. Funded by a Cleveland Clinic Catalyst Grant, the initiative is focused on formally training barbers in active listening, validation, positive communication, and stigma reduction so they can better support the emotional needs of their Black customers. • Giving comes in many forms. We are excited to have artist Mo Willems’ creations come to life on main campus. Some of Mo’s popular characters now cover the construction fencing outside Cleveland Clinic Children’s as we build our new Neurological Institute building. Patients and visitors at our children’s outpatient center can enjoy the vibrant artwork when they look out the window. The Art Collection team facilitated this artwork because Mo's characters are so recognizable. The characters also depict various feelings from glee to frustration, which the Art Collection team thinks will resonate with patients who experience many emotions throughout their care. #clevelandclinic #GivingDoesGood

  • Nearly half of all children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder are at risk for wandering. Two occupational therapists at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital for Rehabilitation had an idea that was brought to life by a Catalyst Grant. Catalyst Grants are 100% funded by donations to Cleveland Clinic. Every dollar of every contribution has an immediate impact by funding projects that help caregivers develop medical breakthroughs, enhance patient services and build community wellness programs. Since the program’s launch in 2018, more than $14 million has been awarded, funding over 300 innovative caregiver ideas. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gDW8F8Sv #clevelandclinic #GivingDoesGood

  • When doctors diagnosed Rob with advanced melanoma, he wasn't sure he'd watch his daughter graduate. Five years later, he saw her receive her diploma and celebrated a milestone of his own. Rob has had no new evidence of cancer following immunotherapy. In 2021, Rob and his wife Joanie established the Nosanchuk-Berger Skin Cancer and Melanoma Research Fund at Cleveland Clinic to support melanoma and irAE research and improve the patient experience. While Rob’s irAE-related treatments will continue indefinitely, Rob avows those struggles don’t compare to the seemingly dire prognosis he potentially faced when diagnosed more than five years ago. “If cancer does come back, or any other health event, I want to be physically and mentally healthier and stronger for it. And I am on that path,” states Rob. Learn more about Rob's story: https://cle.clinic/3Rmhx6d #clevelandclinic #GivingDoesGood
