As a prelude to the 7th Pacific Meteorological Council, COMET held a 1-day workshop on the 3D-Printed Automatic Weather Station (3D-PAWS) on Monday, September 16. Martin Steinson and Paul Kucera demonstrated 3D-printing, fabricating an anemometer, and assembling the station for partners from around the South Pacific. 3D-PAWS is a low-cost, sustainable solution to expand weather observation capabilities. You can learn more about 3D-PAWS here: https://lnkd.in/gMfUuyjP #PMC7 #ResilientPacific #3DPAWS #3Dprinting

The private sector is teeming with job opportunities for meteorologists. COMET is working on a two-phase National Science Foundation (NSF) project to help higher education professionals and students discover these opportunities and learn the skills they’ll need to succeed. Phase one of this ongoing effort is complete! The team produced a free MetEd lesson for higher education classrooms on private-sector career pathways plus a series of interviews with industry experts on what to expect in various roles. Learn more about this ongoing effort—and what’s in store for phase two—in our latest blog post! #meteorology #backtoschool #careers ➡️ Latest COMET blog post: https://lnkd.in/gXWDipmi ➡️ Free COMET MetEd Private-sector Career Pathways lesson: https://lnkd.in/g7SzQtYp ➡️ YouTube playlist of interviews with industry experts: https://lnkd.in/g5zG2Wna

✅Suivez le cours : https://lnkd.in/ggqqKRsb Our Applied NWP course is now available in French! Meteorology services are increasingly adopting ensemble prediction systems over deterministic, one-solution weather forecasts. What does this mean, and how can you prepare? Grow your understanding of the numerical weather prediction model outputs used in these models with this free course. This course was developed in coordination with the Meteorological Service of Canada / Environment and Climate Change Canada and includes an instructors’ guide. ✅Take the course: https://lnkd.in/ggqqKRsb

We were thrilled to collaborate on this project with such incredible partners!
Scientists with the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) recently supported the Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe's 3D-printed automatic weather stations (3D-PAWS) training program in Harare, where participants learned how to fabricate and install their own weather stations. Learn how FEWS NET is using 3D printing to strengthen weather station networks across Africa for better monitoring and forecasting of extreme weather events https://ow.ly/vHEY50T2jjZ
