  • Today we are on the Weatherford College campus to kick off the Governor’s Small Business Summit in Weatherford, Texas. The business summits are a great way for #smallbusiness owners in the area to find information and network with other business owners. Texas continues to be a great place to grow a business. The fine folks with the Texas Economic Development - Office of the Governor can help you build that business. The Texas Workforce Commission is focused on unlocking opportunities for the Texas workforce through partnerships throughout the state. A great example is the partnership between Weatherford College and Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas which resulted in a new Emerging Technologies and Workforce Building. This is just one of the many ways we are creating pathways for new skills that will lead to great careers in Texas.   • Earlier today we celebrated several Jobs & Education for Texans grants with big checks totaling over $2.6 Million for nine grant recipients, including La Joya ISD, Lyford CISD, Monte Alto ISD, Rio Grande City Grulla ISD, Santa Maria ISD, Sharyland ISD, Valley View ISD, Vanguard Academy and TSTC Harlingen. In the first year of the grants, the funding will help train 1,263 students in high demand occupations in food service, automotive mechanics, nursing, and welding.   • The Texas Workforce Commission 2024 Grace Conference provided resources and tools for second chance individuals to gain employment and self-sufficiency. From an interactive session of what a second chance individuals goes through to panel discussions on employment and benchmarks of reentry.
