“The entities responsible for protecting the most vulnerable in society and driving economic growth worldwide are among the least capable of protecting themselves. The charities that feed the hungry and treat the sick, and even small hospitals in developed countries, face massive risks." #CommonGoodCyber continues to identify and develop sustainable funding models for those who work tirelessly to safeguard our digital lives. This new interview with Chris Gibson, the executive director of the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST), is the second of three that dive into the struggles and achievements of nonprofit organizations for which Common Good Cyber intends to contribute transformative cybersecurity funding. Founded 35 years ago, FIRST's vision is to make the #Internet safer through building relationships and networks of teams worldwide. These teams support, train, and mentor each other, helping new groups develop until they can maintain incident response capabilities within their own countries or regions. We aim at securing stable funding so that nonprofits can stay devoted to bringing value to the Internet ecosystem. In this first interview of a three-part series, Piotr Kijewski, CEO of The Shadowserver Foundation, explains what the organization does: give out information about cybersecurity events that they see across the #Internet to defenders, for free. This enables people with technical knowledge to secure their networks. A perfect example of why Common Good Cyber is so crucial. 🌍 125 years after the Hague Peace Convention reshaped global peace and justice, the CyberPeace Institute continues the legacy by prioritizing cybersecurity for NGOs—key actors in delivering critical services across society in an increasingly complex digital landscape. Recapping on our activities last week: 🔹 At the historic Carnegie Foundation - Peace Palace in The Hague, we launched the BEYOND125 Action Plan at the BEYOND125: Securing Our World’s Digital Future event. Leaders from across government, cybersecurity, civil society, and philanthropy came together to drive coordinated action and scale up funding to protect vulnerable communities online. Together, we’re advancing global leadership and collaboration to secure our digital future. 🔹CyberSecMonth at the ONE Conference, featured panels on the future of cyber volunteering with thanks to Sarah P., Matthew R. Grote, and Max Smeets, and on building cybersecurity for vulnerable sectors led by Marcela Rocha F. Neves, Francesca Bosco, Martin Grisel, and Raymond Bierens. 🔹We close the week with a cyber crisis simulation led by the #CyberPeaceBuilders at The Hague Humanity Hub. Diving in to the complexities of the cyber threat landscape with a hands-on approach, promptly kicking off the Action Plan activities. Together with Gemeente Den Haag and CyberPeace Institute today we held “Beyond 125 Years: Securing Our World’s Digital Future” at the historic Peace Palace. 🧺 Here are some key takeaways: ✅ We launched the BEYOND125 Action Plan, calling for global leaders, cyber defenders, and philanthropists to take action to ensure our online safety. Common Good Cyber will play a pivotal role in establishing and sustaining that dedicated fund. ✅ Together, We Can Build A Stronger Internet. The Internet is a wonderland. But it's not magic. We unveiled a video about how the Internet works, and the legions of unsung heroes that work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep it running. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dr7iuA9B 💲 These passionate experts and the nonprofits they work for need long-term funding support. Launched in February in Washington D.C., Common Good Cyber will play a pivotal role in establishing and sustaining a dedicated fund. 🧩 In cybersecurity, like in many other fields, nothing can be done individually. It is a team effort. During the various panels and sessions today, one thing remained clear: defending is a vast and complex exercise no one can do alone. And no one should ever feel alone when undergoing a cyber attack. 👏 This great event would have not been possible without the work and engagement of so many. Thank you for this very productive day, and we count on you (125 hours to say the least!) to spread the word for more engagement to protect the COMMON GOOD CYBER. Worldwide there are more than 10 million nonprofits. They provide essential services for global peace to more than 1 billion people. Many of them are often targeted by cyberattacks and disinformation. 🌍 Today, 125 years since the First Hague Peace Conference took place, leaders from around the world gather at the Peace Palace to launch a global action plan to ensure nonprofits' access cybersecurity solutions to foster global peace, justice and security. 🌍 Jan van Zanen , the Mayor of The Hague, emphasised the significance of this initiative: "𝘐𝘯 𝘢 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘺𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘴 𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴, 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘴.
