Using Ansys Fluent's native multi-GPU solver on version 2024 R2, you can now simulate mixing of non-Newtonian fluids, e.g. within a double helix mixer which is commonly used for high-viscosity mixing applications. In the below simulation, we are visualizing the velocity magnitude on the left and the tracer volume fraction on the right. This combined video nicely shows the difference between the hydrodynamics and mixing time scales for this highly viscous and non-Newtonian fluid. The Fluent multi-GPU Solver efficiently utilizes both high-end GPUs and laptop GPUs to yield orders of magnitude speed-ups compared to typical CPU hardware. *Simulation courtesy of Ansys Application Engineer Prashanth Ethiraj Register for our Fluent GPU Solver 2024 R2 webinar to learn more: https://ansys.me/4diaVOB Download the latest version of Fluent at the Ansys Customer Portal: https://ansys.me/46hCAgt #ansys #Ansys2024R2 #ansysfluent #GPU #simulation #engineering

In this simulation, we are using Ansys FENSAP-ICE to compute ice accretion on a section of an aircraft's wing in an icing wind tunnel. Ice accretion is a hazard that can degrade the overall lift, drag and control stability of the aircraft. Numerical simulation provides a cost-effective way to virtually test ice impact on aircraft aerodynamic performance, and investigate test points that are beyond the limits of wind tunnels. Next week, we are excited to attend AIAA Aviation to discuss our many aviation simulation solutions. Ansys will have a booth in the main exhibition hall and will be presenting 7 technical papers, ranging from advanced modeling of icing to the ablation of the thermal-protection system for atmospheric re-entry vehicles. Many of these papers are joint works with customers, including Airbus, Textron Systems and academic partners. In this simulation we are using Ansys Fluent to simulate printed circuit board (PCB) potting/moldflow to identify areas of possible air voids and to understand the effects of different potting materials and flow parameters on overall PCB reliability. Fluent utilizes robust multi-phase workflows that account for surface tension effects and can import advanced material models for resin and epoxy materials. Geometries can also be exported to LS-DYNA or Mechanical for thermal-structural analysis. Have you used the Fluent Aero Workspace? The Fluent Aero Workspace is an external aerodynamic project workspace dedicated to aerospace engineers. This workspace allows you to automatically organize and explore a wide range of configurations and conditions (e.g., wind tunnel, natural flight, high altitude, etc.), using built-in, condition-dependent best practices to enhance accuracy and significantly reduce the amount of effort spent to create, maintain, and continuously update in-house CFD best practices and workflows. The surge in the electric vehicle market underscores the pressing need for smaller, lighter batteries with increased capacity. Yet, safety remains a critical concern in Li-ion battery (LIB) applications. Thermal abuse resulting from manufacturing defects, deformation, or inadequate thermal management poses a significant risk. Due to the intricate electrochemical/thermal system, traditional safety testing falls short of comprehensively addressing thermal runaway propagation during internal shorting. Thus, a robust numerical model is critical in understanding thermal runaway propagation and pinpointing parameters to mitigate such incidents in battery modules or packs. We all know the speed-up improvements that can be achieved by running CFD solvers on GPU hardware, but what about solver accuracy? In our "Fluent GPU Solver: Validation Studies Whitepaper", we cover several canonical and industrial problems typically used to validate CFD codes. We showcase and demonstrate the accuracy of Fluent's numerical solver when running on GPUs when compared against these use cases AND against our traditional CPU Solver. Download the Validation Studies Whitepaper here to learn more: https://ansys.me/4628vB9 ~Stay tuned for a 2024 R2 Validation Studies whitepaper coming soon~
