Do you ever think about the learning stacks underlying a career in nuclear power? Here is one such stack for a nuclear engineer -- incomplete but still heavy and intimidating, when viewed (conceptually) from this angle. But there are common threads running through this thing, tying all of it together. You could follow those threads: up, down, sideways, in spirals, etc. It's a journey of a lifetime because every little thing you learn, forget, re-learn, etc. strengthens and expands your understanding of the whole stack. (You hope.) This thing we call "Nuclear Training and Education" is not easy, or necessarily even straightforward. The "best" way to engage with it is constantly evolving, as are the people involved in trying to learn it and teach it. CONTE is about finding (and sharing) the new and better ways to direct that evolution. It's a mission and you should be part of it. Join the mission! SMRs are advanced nuclear reactors that have a power capacity of up to 300 MW(e) per unit which extend beyond traditional reactors, offering the opportunity of safer, cheaper, and more efficient generation of emissions-free electricity, as well as heat for industrial processes. Various institutions within Canada such as universities and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories are conducting research, collaborating at the national and international level, and are participating in Government of Canada programs to establish capabilities to support the safe design, deployment, and future operation of SMRs. An overview snapshot of the SMR deployment landscape in Canada and innovative supporting research within Canada will be discussed.
