💡 2024 Student Corporate Engagement Challenge Finalist Spotlight: University of Southern California A thorough, four-stage filtering process moved the USC team to select WM as their ideal investment, focusing on the boost it and the larger industry will receive from federal funding through the Inflation Reduction Act and other measures. The team also noted "a lack of addressable goals in the areas of business model resilience, air quality, and labor practices." Given these factors, and the more than 45k people employed by WM in the U.S. and Canada, the USC team asks the company to further its ESG engagement through increasing employee safety, and report + reduce the illness rate and injury rate among its workers. Our smallest finalist team is looking to have a big impact -- amazing work from Sparsh S. and Jerrod Rabenbauer, and their mentor Anu Rames! 🤩 Want to see USC's presentation + hear if they win this year's Challenge? 💡 2024 Student Corporate Engagement Challenge Finalist Spotlight: Central Washington University Last year's undergraduate winner is a Finalist again this year, thanks to an investment recommendation in United Airlines! After detailing the company's financial resilience and post-pandemic bounce back as a part of its analysis, CWU looked into the ESG challenges affecting United Airlines' reputation and operational integrity, including deterioration around discrimination and harassment issues. As a result, the CWU team looks to engage with the company on the scope of the materials risks that result from its lagging action on safety, discrimination, harassment, employee wellbeing, and systemic change. In particular, the team wanted improved policies, procedures, and support systems for victims of sexual harassment and assault at the company. A huge shoutout to Jaap Donker, Madilyn Shirley, Cole Smith, and Serena Perez for their efforts, and thanks to their dedicated mentor, Ian Woods! Will CWU take home the gold in the undergraduate category this year? Find out - https://lnkd.in/eiSkgJ-k

💡 2024 Student Corporate Engagement Challenge Finalist Spotlight: University of Michigan The University of Michigan team is the second graduate finalist in this year's Challenge, investing in and engaging with environmental, energy, and industrial services provider Clean Harbors! The University of Michigan team analyzed the company's favorable medium to long-term margin growth outlook and recent $400 million HEPACO acquisition, focusing on increasing demand for its services while acknowledging its "middling" ESG scores on environmental issues. As a result, the team chose to engage with Clean Harbors to create its first detailed emissions inventory, seeking to hold dialogue with leadership to understand emission tracking challenges and pushing the company to undertake a detailed, facility-level inventory within the first year of engagement. All of this impressive work from a small but mighty team of three -- congratulations Nikunj Bhimsaria, Satya Sri M, and Shrishti Puri! And a huge thanks to their mentor, the incredible Laura Payne! 🎉 Did UMich take home graduate honors this year? Join us Tuesday + find out . . . https://lnkd.in/eiSkgJ-k

💡 2024 Student Corporate Engagement Challenge Finalist Spotlight: Hampton University We've announced Finalist teams for this year's Challenge, and I couldn't be more excited to share a bit about each of their deliverables and strategies. Firstly, in the graduate category: Hampton University! The Hampton team chose to invest with Intel Corporation, and provided an incredibly detailed look into the company's valuation and the opportunities presented by the introduction of its AI accelerator chip, GAUDI 3. The team's corresponding engagement strategy related to human rights violations in the supply chain, asking Intel to add to its 2030 Goal of Human Rights within the Supply Chain Industry within the first year of engagement. Of course, I've got to give Elijah Reaves, Reid Hewitt, Myles Johnson, John Quainoo, and Ethan Mitchell their flowers for all of their fantastic work, along with their mentor Chirag Acharya! 💐 Want to know if Hampton won the graduate category? Tune in Tuesday to find out! https://lnkd.in/eiSkgJ-k
