Collin was raised in Laytonsville, MD, and is the eldest of seven children. He spent his early 20s playing professional tennis—ranking in the #900’s in both singles and doubles, before taking up coaching. He coached junior high performance and collegiate tennis prior to taking a position at Baltimore Country Club as Head Racquets Professional, to coach tennis, pickleball and platform tennis.
Collin began his professional pickleball career in 2018, and quickly climbed to the upper echelons of the game, under the tutelage of his younger brother, and world #1, Ben Johns. The Johns brothers partnership has since yielded 39 professional titles, including 26 PPA titles, 2 National titles, and 2 US Open crowns. They combine to compose the #1 Men’s Pro Doubles team, finishing in the top position for the 2022/2023 seasons.
Outside of competition, Collin has contributed to the Professional Pickleball Registry from 2019-2023 and is co-founder of three businesses—Pickleball 360, My Pickleball Coach, Johns Design & Consulting. He has led camps, clinics, and lessons nationally and internationally for the past several years, and frequently leads the instruction for Pickleball Getaways. His written work has been featured in various publications and he is widely regarded as one of the top coaches in the game.
