About us

The Diversity in Design (DID) Collaborative was initiated in June 2021 to foster systemic change by increasing diversity and improving conditions for Black creatives across the design industry. DID is a group of companies united by a common belief in the critical role that diversity plays in creating strong, impactful businesses and innovations in the design world and beyond. DID has come together with the understanding that impactful change requires a shared value set, a collaborative approach, and aligned action plans that are measurable and directed to outcomes of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field. We’re excited to kick off the Diversity in Design Collaborative Teen Weekend Workshop, led by Freeman Company's Candace Charpentier and Talley (Larkin) Bryant in collaboration with Campbell's Snacks' Christopher Loper, Shakirah Stinson, and mike rice and hosted by DesignPhiladelphia! This three-part program brings together a diverse group of Philly teens to explore the world of design thinking and how it applies to real-world challenges. In the first session, teens explored the fundamentals of Design Thinking and Packaging Design, with a brief introduction to Expo Booth Design. The next two sessions will dive deeper into these areas, with teens honing their packaging design skills and creating their very own expo booth concepts! This past weekend, we kicked off the Diversity in Design Collaborative Teen Workshop, hosted by Freeman Company, Campbell's Snacks, and DesignPhiladelphia ✨ This three-part series is aimed at teaching a diverse group of Philly teens all about #designthinking and how it applies to real-world projects like packaging design and expo booth design. In the first session, the teens explored the fundamentals of design and created moodboards for their new snack brand. In the next two sessions, they will create and prototype packaging designs and then design expo booth concepts to show off their brand. It’s exciting to support the next generation of designers and help them discover their potential alongside a group of very talented leaders (Candace Charpentier from Freeman Company | Christopher Loper, Shakirah Stinson, and mike rice from Campbell's Snacks | and Michael Spain, Assoc. AIA, NOMA and LIZA NILES from DesignPhiladelphia). Looking forward to next month’s session! #designedby #diversityindesign #designphiladelphia

🤩 On September 12, we hosted the Creative Connect in New York City to connect with the local DID community and share more about our mission, vision, and ways to get involved. 🤩 Event attendees were able to … ✨Connect and network in Gretel’s beautiful Brooklyn office space ✨Hear an uplifting and refreshing speech from Eddie Opara, Partner at Pentagram - a founding DID member company ✨Win a copy of the “Pentagram: Living by Design” book set and get it signed by Eddie Opara ✨And enjoy flavorful food that was skillfully crafted by Brooklyn Braised Events.
