We are bringing climate solutions home.

About us

Drawdown Georgia is a statewide, research-based initiative working to catalyze a Georgia beyond carbon. Our road map advances Georgia-specific climate solutions on five fronts: transportation, buildings & materials, food & agriculture, electricity, and land sinks. Our mission is to help Georgians build a new, sustainable future based on our diversity, our ingenuity, and our shared humanity. Drawdown Georgia takes its inspiration from Project Drawdown, the world’s leading resource for taking action on climate change. Researchers from across our state, supported by funding from the Ray C. Anderson Foundation, localized Project Drawdown’s work and identified 20 high-impact climate solutions that put Georgia on a path to advance drawdown–that point in the future when levels of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere stop climbing and start to steadily decline. We’re building a diverse and inclusive “leader-full” movement bringing together businesses, universities, NGOs, policymakers, and others to join the movement to take us further, faster.

While over 50% of us expressed interest in composting, significant barriers like knowledge gaps and concerns about space and odor persist. This research offers crucial insights for policymakers, environmental organizations, and businesses seeking to promote sustainable waste management practices. Insights include: • Low composting rates but high potential for growth. • Education and outreach are essential for increasing adoption. • Addressing concerns about pests, odors, and space is crucial.
