Today we announced our commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. In a letter submitted to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), we shared our intent to set long-term science-based greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets, thereby establishing an end-to-end value chain net-zero target to be verified by SBTi in accordance with SBTi’s Net-Zero Standard. Nomex® and Kevlar® were there for the first moonwalk, adding thermal protection and lightweight durability to Neil Armstrong’s spacesuit. After decades of use in similar applications, they just entered space again — this time, protecting the crew of the first commercial spacewalk. The Extravehicular Activity Suits used in yesterday’s SpaceX Polaris mission featured Nomex® and Kevlar® in its external fabric. The suits needed to withstand the vacuum of space, but also provide comfort and ease of mobility. These factors made Nomex® and Kevlar® a great fit for the project.
