Let's celebrate Caitlin Bowling for their successful internship at Cargill! Briefly describe your major project(s) or tasks over the summer. This past summer, I worked as Finance & Accounting intern with Cargill, an agricultural company headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The experience was incredibly rewarding, both personally and professionally. As an intern, I worked on the Softseeds Controllership team. The bulk of my tasks were accounting-focused with some smaller finance-focused projects. The largest project I worked on involved helping to clear aged account receivables totaling over $5.14 million. What is the most important thing you learned from your internship? The most important thing I learned from my internship was how easy yet incredibly powerful networking is. At the beginning of my internship, I set a goal to network with at least one person a week. This simple goal garnered incredible results. Networking regularly has made me realize how easy and important networking is. People rarely say no to coffee chats, and there is something to learn from everyone, whether they're at the top of their field, or at the beginning of their career. It may seem daunting at first, but the benefits cannot be understated. Networking is not just about growing your network; it's an opportunity to genuinely connect with others, to learn, and to grow. What do you think was the most critical factor(s) in preparing you to succeed at your internship? The most critical factor in preparing for my internship success was learning to advocate for myself. It's important to speak up for yourself, even in little ways. Advocating for yourself is not just negotiating a job offer, it's about ensuring that you are in the best possible position. An internship is not just a job, it's an interview - and your performance can mean the difference between receiving a job offer or not. Advocating could mean asking for work responsibilities and opportunities, establishing boundaries, or explicitly communicating your interest in a full-time position. By advocating for yourself, not only do you gain confidence, but you also reinforce yourself as a prime candidate for future opportunities. #StudentSuccess #fishercollege #careermanagement #osu #fishercollegeofbusiness #ohiostate #career
