AND WE'RE LIVE! Welcome to Greenhouse Gas Removal Future Leaders Network. An initiative by CO₂RE - The Greenhouse Gas Removal Hub, The Future Leaders Network is an agile and dynamic community founded with the aim of stimulating the next generation of greenhouse gas removal professionals in the UK. Our membership base is a diverse as the GGR solutions we work on. From peatlands to direct air capture, we are researchers, innovators, GGR solution developers, policy thinkers, consultants, corporates, and non-profits coming together to help shape the future of GGR in UK. The Network provides a space for the industry's emerging talents to convene, share ideas, and develop new perspectives whilst members benefit from access to funding, resources to support their own professional development, and opportunities to participate in collaborative ‘microfinance’ projects. As we are building this new industry, we believe peer-to-peer learning will be crucial in helping enrich opportunities for collaboration, not only within GGR but across climate action. This past week I had the opportunity to join a group of other members of the Greenhouse Gas Removal Future Leaders Network on a series of site visits around the Teeside area, focusing on future #NetZero developments. As someone who is relatively new to the energy sector and the world of CDR, it was a pleasure to listen to a diverse range of perspectives from academics, policymakers, and industry specialists. Some highlights of the trip include: ⚡️Visiting the SUEZ energy-from-waste (EfW) STV power plant and learning more about the process behind turning municipal waste into energy. Learning about the plant’s Continuous Emissions Monitoring System and waste heat in particular helped to make some of the work I’ve been doing more tangible. 🦆Visiting RSPB Saltholme and seeing a place of such contrast with wildlife in the foreground and industry on the horizon. 🏗️ Listening to a presentation from the Tees Valley Combined Authority on the role of investment in the area and its focus on Net Zero, particularly highlighted by a tour of Teesworks where I was able to view some of the ongoing remediation works, planned grid connection points, and the area which will be home to part of the planned CO2 Transport and Storage (T&S) network. 🔬 Hearing about some of the future technologies that may be in the pipeline which will contribute to net zero from the Net Zero Industry Innovation Centre. Finally, thank you to CO₂RE - The Greenhouse Gas Removal Hub, Francesca Battersby and Soren Vines for helping to coordinate such an insightful trip and to everyone that attended for being so welcoming.

Just returned from an extremely inspiring #NetZero trip to Teesside with the Greenhouse Gas Removal Future Leaders Network - once again, a genuine pleasure to be in the company of such knowledgeable and passionate thought leaders from across climate #research #industry and #policy. 🏭 A visit to SUEZ UK to see their energy-from-waste facility, where carbon from flue gas emissions is transported to, and stored within, an aquifer 145 km off the coast beneath the North Sea. 🦅 A stroll at RSPB Saltholme Nature Reserve: once an industrial site, now one of the UK’s largest inland breeding colonies of Common Tern. 📉 A presentation from Tees Valley Combined Authority on their ambition to become the world's first Net Zero industrial cluster by 2040. 🦺 A tour around Teesworks, Europe’s largest brownfield site. 🎓 A research showcase from Net Zero Industry Innovation Centre. Thanks, as ever, to the CO₂RE - The Greenhouse Gas Removal Hub. Much to take back to Cranfield University!

Our latest Thought Leadership piece with illuminem is out now! Written by the one of the influential voices in mCDR, Sophie Gill, Ph.D. lays out the state-of-play with monitoring, reporting and verifying our largest carbon sink: the ocean. Check out the piece here: https://lnkd.in/eHrtGMNZ Sophie joined the FLN in June 2023 and brings with her significant expertise and credentials that include a PhD from University of Oxford on Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement and an expert reviewer with both XPRIZE and Stripe.
Scientific rigor ensures that every Isometric carbon removal credit represents a tonne of carbon dioxide durably removed from the atmosphere. In a new illuminem article for the Greenhouse Gas Removal Future Leaders Network, Isometric Head of Marine Science Sophie Gill, Ph.D. breaks down why robust monitoring, verification and reporting (MRV) is essential to scaling marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR). For insights into how mCDR technologies are evolving, follow the first link in the comments.

Grabbing Headlines by Writing By-Lines! Amplifying and providing a platform for the voices of the next generation of GGR leaders is a critical pillar of our work and today, we are pleased to see Ashleigh Arton, Victoria Ponieman and Priya Yadav's article featured in the illuminem billboard today. In our latest Thought Leadership piece, the authors discuss the synergies between connecting two of the three pillars of climate action, removals and adaptation, to create and embolden stronger, more resilient communities and ecosystems. Check out the piece here: https://lnkd.in/d9sRyZQg If you are interested in supporting and shaping the next generation of climate leaders, we want to hear from you! We’ve set ourselves the important mission of empowering the next generation of leaders in this industry and set them up for success. But how? We follow three simple principles: 1. Increase exposure through thought leadership 2. Build holistic trusting relationships 3. Use the newest science communication methods Which brings us to our announcement today. We are ecstatic to share our first partnership as an organisation with illuminem. Illuminem’s considerable reach will help our publications reach further and deeper, helping our monthly thought leaders work on greenhouse gas removal sites across the UK. Illuminem has already shown considerable commitment to amplifying the voices of future leaders in the environmental and sustainability space through their Voices platform, meaning the partnership is a natural fit with our philosophy. To kick us off, here's Dr Dan Evans talking about the complexities and "known unknowns" of soil carbon sequestration: https://lnkd.in/dYh3mRQs Thank you to Vilhelmiina Vulli and all the Greenhouse Gas Removal Future Leaders Network authors who have already prepared articles We are excited to work with anyone looking to amp up the voices of early career professionals and those at the frontline of greenhouse gas removal. Last week the FLN was excited to have Ross Kenyon ex co-founder and VP of Strategy at Nori speak to us about his story of building one of the world's first carbon removal market places! Ross has had a rich and varied career. Starting out in academia where he worked at the interface of philosophy and communications, working with the likes of Peter Singer, he then spent time in film production before founding Nori in 2017 as well as creating and hosting the Carbon Removal Newsroom. It was great to hear Ross talk passionately about innovation within the space and his journey, spanning across the need for concrete demand signals, COP 28 and the climate of carbon removal marketplaces.
