Hello everybody. Hope everybody’s summer has been great. You have seen some updated news from our past Cohort members and it’s great to see them all keep growing…with or without us. You may have noticed a little less traffic on subject of future Cohorts. While we continuously work on planning future Cohorts we are focusing on building up better support to enable and create outcomes that will help our Cohort members. Essential part of any program like Sixth Sense is to truly deliver on the promise on helping the Cohort members grow and scale. While we have been able to deliver some good results, we feel that we can do better and that is where we will be spending most of our work over next few months. We hope to be able to share some news about it soon. We are also looking at executing Cohorts in the future that would include several Hexagon’s divisions in order to offer a wider set of opportunities for our Cohort members. We will also be launching our web site redesign that highlights our past Cohorts, features more information on all the startups that went through our program, provides many details on what we offer and plenty of video content to show you what it is that one can get out of Sixth Sense. Please stay tuned as we progress forward. If you are a startup and you are interested in participating please apply as we keep a database that we will tap into for future Cohorts. If you are a VC or just know of a great startup please let them know to apply. While the pace of updates will slow down a bit over next several weeks…we might still have a few surprises coming. Thank you and keep following us. Future is bright and Hexagon is looking forward to continue growing the startup ecosystem. Milan & the team

Could #DigitalRealities put a stop to supply chain shortages? We're investigating how robots and digital twins can boost efficiency during disruption. 🤖 Robots: Their speed and accuracy when running inventory checks exceed humans, so it's unsurprising that Gartner predicts that 50% of large companies will employ robots in their manufacturing functions by 2028. We've seen Flexxbotics roll out software that takes this to the next level. It allows collaborative robots (cobots) to restart autonomously and continue working when stopped unexpectedly. During supply chain disruption, fluid processes are crucial so this is big news for supply chain leaders looking to fool-proof their inventory ops. 💻 Digital twins: Some risks may seem outside of a business' control but digital twins let operators simulate "what-if" scenarios to prepare for all eventualities. They reveal the production process, warehouse, transportation status, and inventory levels to help leaders identify risks and bottlenecks in the supply chain network before it's too late and costly. A great example of this is RIIICO - joint winner of our first challenge - who synchronises physical factories with their digital counterparts to address manufacturing disruptions. Is your business adopting digital realities to improve your supply chain, or are you a startup working in this area? We'd love to hear what you are up to. #DigitalRealities #DigitalTwins #Robots #Cobots Photo credit: RIIICO

🏅 The Olympic games aren't just a sporting spectacle, they're a showcase of how the science and engineering of summer sports has advanced over the past four years. One key development we're excited about? Additive manufacturing. Here's where it's in use. And it's not always in the ways you'd expect! 🛹 The world's first 3D-printed skatepark:  Designed by Saint-Gobain, the venue features 3D-printed concrete modules, a first-of-its-kind. This method allows the creation of complex, bespoke shapes that were previously difficult to realise. It also makes it possible to reduce waste by using just the right amount of materials. 🚴 Team GB's seamless track bike:  Renishaw used additive manufacturing to build the crank, seat stay bridge, dropouts and seat post of Team GB's bike. The process allowed British Cycling to make several design iterations to optimise aerodynamics that would have been impossible using traditional methods. 🧤 3D-printed wheelchair racing gloves: Using Selective Laser Sintering, CRP USA transformed the production of racing gloves for Paralympic gold medalist Tatyana McFadden - professional. Traditional gloves often fail to meet the standards required by athletes, so CRP USA laser sintered Windform XT 2.0 (a composite material) to produce gloves that were high strength and durable, yet weighed 50% less than conventional gloves. Have you noticed any displays of #AdditiveManufacturing at the Paris Olympics? Which one would you select for Gold? 🥇 #ParisOlympics #3DPrinting

We had a fantastic day at BDC’s startup showcase last week! 🇨🇦 The event is organised by the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), one of the largest funds in Canada investing in the industrial and sustainability space. It brings together CEOs of startups in the BDC portfolio with industry leaders, potential partners, and investors to discuss how businesses: ➡️ Can prepare for growth and scale ➡️ Should attract and retain top talent ➡️ Can implement an effective go-to-market strategy Greta Cutulenco (CEO and Co-Founder of Acerta and runner-up in this year’s Sixth Sense Cohort), was first recommended for the Sixth Sense programme through the BDC, highlighting the value of such events in finding innovative startups for our program. We look forward to exploring new collaborations and welcoming more talented startups to our future cohorts! #SixthSense #Startups #Innovation #Hexagon

Following our first case study for #WorldEnvironmentDay on Tuesday, we’re highlighting a second initiative which shows how technology can help us step further towards a circular economy. According to the World Economic Forum, one-fifth of the world’s carbon emissions come from manufacturing and production, so intelligent initiatives are needed if we are serious about reducing the environmental impact of our industry. To do that, sustainability needs to be a strategic priority, not just a box-ticking exercise. An example of a genuinely clever initiative comes from Skanska. They used Hexagon’s Leica BLK2GO handheld scanner technology to begin demolition plans for a 23-story office building in Warsaw. This reality capture technology created a BIM-based inventory and a 3D model of the building. By utilising digital technology in the construction and demolition planning phase, Skanska ensured waste and extra materials were accounted for and used, contributing to the circular manufacturing model. Read the full case study below. #Manufacturing #SustainableManufacturing #Demolition
