We recently commissioned a new study that showed while 82% of pet owners said it's important to have a disaster preparedness plan for their pet, only a third actually have one. During National Preparedness Month, we are teaming up with some of our shelter partners in areas prone to natural disasters including Animal Rescue League of Iowa, Inc., Houston SPCA, Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, Kentucky Humane Society, Louisiana SPCA, Marin Humane, Maui Humane Society, NOCO Humane and Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League to help educate pet owners on how to be properly prepared before disaster strikes, with the goal of keeping pets safe and reducing the strain on shelters. Today's the last day of NBCUniversal Local's #ClearTheShelters campaign, so as we start to finalize the tally of pets adopted, we want to extend an early THANK YOU to everyone who supported the campaign - the participating shelters, volunteers, partners, our employees and adopters - for your role in helping us in our mission to end pet homelessness. We can't wait to share the results soon!

September is National Disaster Preparedness Month and serves as a great reminder to pet owners to include their pets in their emergency plans. New research shows less than a third of pet owners have a plan in place, so Hill's Rebecca Tremble, DVM recently stopped by KCTV/KSMO/tv to talk about easy ways pet owners can create a plan and emergency kit for their pets in hopes of ensuring pet owners are equipped to best care for their pets during times of disaster. https://lnkd.in/gu9z6Kw5

Thanks to the coordination efforts of Nashville Humane Association and Animal Care and Control association of Tennessee, our Disaster Relief Network, part of Hill's Food, Shelter & Love, was able to donate more than 20 palettes of food and treats to help support pets in need across the state of Tennessee. Cost of pet care is one of the biggest barriers to both pet ownership and keeping pets in their homes, so we are humbled to play a small role in supporting the pet and families who will benefit from donations like this. ❤️

It's here ... this weekend is NBCUniversal Local's #ClearTheShelters crescendo weekend! 🐶 🐱 This is when the largest number of adoptions of the campaign take place via coordinated adoption drives in thousands of shelters, and we are proud to have hundreds of Hill's Pet Nutrition and Colgate-Palmolive employees volunteering their time at Hill's shelter partners across the country! If you are considering adoption, this is a great weekend to visit your local shelter to see the deserving pets eagerly awaiting a loving home! 👉 https://lnkd.in/gXQdHVVY

It's no surprise that shelters across the country are continuing to experience an overcapacity crisis. And while it's heartbreaking - we are also inspired by seeing so many of our shelter partners blazing new pathways to solutions. For example, The Animal Foundation has recently launched a foster incentive program aimed at alleviating shelter overcrowding and saving lives. In July alone, the shelter saw an average intake of 125 animals daily, most of those were dogs. The pilots goal is to place 75 dogs into month-long foster homes within a 3-day period to create vital space in the shelter. Foster families who commit to caring for an eligible dog for four full weeks will receive $200 upon completion of the foster period. Well done for thinking outside of the box to the entire The Animal Foundation team! 👏 https://lnkd.in/gPeUBQGz.

Helping enrich the lives of pets - especially in our hometown - is at the heart of what we do. We recently teamed up with the Pet Resource Center of Kansas City, Great Plains SPCA, Humane Society of Greater Kansas City, Lawrence Humane Society, Wayside Waifs and Prairie Paws Adoption Center to host the first campus wide adoption event at our headquarters in Overland Park in honor of NBCUniversal Local's #ClearTheShelters campaign! It was great to provide visibility to the incredible pets in our community that need loving homes and rewarding to see many of the featured dogs get adopted! Thank you to our shelter partners for participating and the Hill's team who helped organize this event! https://lnkd.in/guUw-Ww3

In our State of Shelter Pet Adoption Report, we learned that the majority of current or prospective pet owners say that veterinary care is the most expensive parts of owning a pet. While that's a barrier to adoption, industry leaders like Animal Rescue League of Boston are working to break those barriers through innovative and award-winning community programs, like the Spay Waggin’, a mobile veterinary surgical vehicle that provides low-cost spay and neuter services in Greater Boston, Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod, and the Islands. Over the past 10 years, the mobile team has performed more than 75,000 surgeries! 👉 More on ARL's innovative program: https://lnkd.in/gwQaq5Md 👉 More insights from the 2024 State of Shelter Pet Adoption Report: https://lnkd.in/gGBxpDwQ

Large dogs are one of the most vulnerable pet types in animal shelters, which is why it was heart-breaking to learn that 70 dogs were recently seized in Louisiana, including 16 Great Danes who now need rescue placement. Through the Hill's Food, Shelter & Love Disaster Relief Network, we're providing emergency nutritional support to Daisy's Dane Sanctuary, who has been tasked with finding placement for the remaining Danes. Outside of quality nutrition, these deserving dogs need fosters and adopters who are ready to open their hearts and homes. Together, we can give these dogs a second chance at a loving home!
