Through separate collaborations with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the University of Tokyo, Hitachi has verified the principle behind basic technology to observe radio waves from all directions and localize their sources. By applying this technology to artificial satellites, the aim is to improve the precision of space situational awareness (SSA) and solve problems faced by customers involved in space exploration activities, such as preventing collisions with other satellites. As the Japanese government steers a course to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, local municipalities are also taking initiatives to realize a decarbonized society. Read about the “decarbonization scenario simulator” that Hitachi is developing to help local governments with their decarbonization efforts. 

Electronic devices and motors are used in a variety of applications, including mobile phones, personal computers, cars, trains, and power plants, supporting our daily life. Many of those functions and performances are determined by the arrangement of atoms, which are the smallest unit of ordinary matter that forms material, and behavior of electrons. To develop new functions and improve performance, there is a need for a technology enabling the ultra-high-resolution observation of matter at an atomic level. Today, Hitachi, Kyushu University, RIKEN, and HREM announced the world's first observation of magnetic fields of individual lattice planes. 

The 8th STS Forum ASEAN-JAPAN Workshop, which promotes ASEAN-Japan science and technology cooperation, was held last Thursday, 27 June in Bangkok, Thailand.
