About us
Since its opening in 1973, our Cancer Center has led the world in deciphering the mechanisms of cancer and new ways to treat it. “Many men diagnosed with low-grade #prostatecancer are interested in changes they can make to reduce the risk of their tumor becoming more aggressive, and the role of diet and nutrition is one of the most commonly asked questions,” says Dr Bruce Trock, a professor of urology, epidemiology and oncology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and director of the Johns Hopkins Brady Urological Institute Institute's epidemiology division. “These men are motivated to make changes that may improve their prognosis, which is why we began collecting data on their diets, lifestyles and exposures 20 years ago. Hopefully, these latest findings will enable us to develop some concrete steps they can take to reduce the risk of cancer progression.”

“One of our main queries was whether RK-33 could be effective for treating bone metastasis, based on previous lab findings that showed its effectiveness in suppressing breast cancer growth,” says Dr Venu Raman of the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. “We first had to determine whether DDX3 was expressed in patient samples of breast cancer bone metastasis, and we found DDX3 was expressed at high levels in these samples."

“The combination of artificial intelligence, cell-free DNA fragmentomes and a pair of protein biomarkers in a simple blood test improved detection of ovarian cancer even in patients with early-stage disease,” says Dr Victor Velculescu, Co-Director of the Cancer Genetics and Epigenetics Program at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. “This AI-enabled approach has the potential to be an affordable, accessible method for widespread screening for #ovariancancer.”
