The hospitality industry was abuzz following the New York City Council’s passing of the Safe Hotels Act earlier this week. The American Hotel & Lodging Association and AAHOA believe the legislation will have damaging effects on the market and beyond, while local union the Hotel and Gaming Trades Council, AFL-CIO says it will make hotels and working conditions better. The Hotel Association Of New York City switched its stance from opposition to support, saying earlier this week the bill will create a fair and practical standard for hotels in the city. But New York City Minority Hotel Association Inc. urged NYC Mayor Eric Adams to veto the passed legislation, claiming it will force area #hotels to close and “kill thousands of jobs.” See below for a full overview of what hotel industry leaders across the board had to say about the implications of the passed legislation. Where do you stand on the issue?

Breaking: The New York City Council has passed the Safe Hotels Act, which requires hotel operators in New York City to obtain a license in order to operate, along with other mandates. Hotel owners associations, including American Hotel & Lodging Association and AAHOA, have condemned the licensing bill, while local unions have applauded it. How do you think this morning's passage will impact NYC #hotels and the industry at large?

Choice Hotels International just debuted its 500th extended stay #hotel in Glendale, Arizona! Last week, ahead of the opening, I sat down with Matt McElhare, Choice’s vice president and lead for extended stay brands, to chat about what this milestone opening means for the economy giant. He shared what U.S. markets and segments (hint: upscale) have potential for #extendedstay growth. I also picked his brain on where the category is headed in 2025. His takeaways? Leveraging #technology will set brands apart and changing #travel demand could shape the trajectory of extended stay. Check out our full conversation below and over on Hotel Dive. https://lnkd.in/gPCnkGs7
