On video: “Wow” You may have already heard the great news that our undergraduate teams took home the major prizes at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers' (IMechE) National Design Challenge, but have a quick look at their simply amazing performance during the day. National Champions for the 4th year running, both UCL MechEng teams won the Foundation and Advanced categories in this competition of small, automated vehicle prototype designs, hitting targets with perfect scores in each round. Listening out for the judge exclaiming “wow” at the accuracy! The victory in this competition extends a run of competition successes for UCL mechanical engineering students. These wins including UCL Rocket's recent National Rocketry Championships have dramatically increased since the inception of the department’s Kings Cross-based teaching lab MechSpace. Students, supported by technical staff and student mentors can design and build practical projects for assignments, extra-curricular competition and just for fun in the well-equipped facility. The winning Foundation team in the IMechE challenge (former Year 1 undergraduates) was. Victor Brinzan, Hovan Cheung, Leonardo Piglia, Ram Gautham Kurakula, Kabir Shah, Rustam Toshov The successful Advanced team was: Belkacem Bella, Daud Hassan, Taro Kurado, James Kwong and Christopher Shiao.
