Smart India Hackathon 2024 Launched: Students Invited to Submit Ideas by September 12 The seventh edition of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024 has been launched. The SIH, organized by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC) in partnership with AICTE, is the world’s largest open innovation platform. This year’s edition features 202 problem statements from various government bodies and organizations, inviting students from across India to propose innovative solutions to pressing challenges. Government permits 100% Foreign Direct Investment via automatic route for aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) In a major boost to the domestic MRO industry and to the aviation sector, the Government has announced that a uniform rate of 5% IGST will apply to imports of parts components, testing equipment, tools and tool-kits of aircraft, irrespective of their HSN classification subject to specified conditions. This policy change is a crucial step towards enhancing the competitiveness of the Indian MRO sector, fostering innovation and efficiency and creating a robust and efficient aviation sector. https://lnkd.in/gEnC9dQC

Asia’s largest Tech Conclave 'BTS 2024' to be held in November The 27th edition of Asia's largest technology show, Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS) 2024, will be held from November 19-21 this year. The summit will feature discussions on the latest technological advancements and trends, with participation from industry, academia, and policymakers. The summit is expected to have participation from over 40 countries. India, UK launch 'New Technology Security Initiative' to boost economic growth In a significant move to strengthen global collaborations, India and the UK launched a ‘New Technology Security Initiative’ aimed at boosting economic growth and cooperation in critical areas including telecom, critical minerals, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum and health technology. A new £7-million funding call for future telecom research was also announced by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and India’s Department of Science and Technology, under the India-UK science, technology, and innovation partnership. https://lnkd.in/gWb27Fd8

NITI Aayog join hands with WIPO to develop programs for countries in the Global South NITI Aayog, under its Atal Innovation Mission, signed a Joint Letter of Intent (JLoI) with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) aimed at building programs for innovation, entrepreneurship and intellectual property (IP) for countries in the Global South. This pathbreaking partnership between AIM and WIPO will take the best of India’s innovation models such as Atal Tinkering Labs and Atal Innovation Centres to countries that are on similar development trajectories. https://lnkd.in/gY9gh-Un

India Showcases Space Technology at Australian Space Forum India showcased the growth of space technology capabilities at the 17th Australian Space Forum in Adelaide on 24th and 25th July. During the event, the Indian delegation, led by the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe), highlighted country’s growing prowess in space technology. India scraps ‘angel tax’ in boost for startups Indian Government has removed the ‘angel tax’ for all classes of investors. This move aims to bolster the Indian start-up eco-system, boost the entrepreneurial spirit and support innovation. The tax, introduced in 2012, has long been a pain point for early-stage companies. The announcement was made during the presentation of Budget 2024-25 in Lok Sabha. The abolition of the angel tax across all investor classes marks a landmark reform benefiting India’s Startup Ecosystem.
