Weight loss translates into health gains, and some Obesity related complications may improve with small amounts of weight loss while others, such as prevention of CVD events, may require double-digit percentage weight loss of more than 10%.¹ Obesity is strongly related to major cardiovascular risk factors and diseases including hypertension, glucose intolerance, and dyslipidemia, and type 2 diabetes.² Weight loss reduces total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol, increases HDL-cholesterol, and improves lipid profile, control of blood pressure and diabetes.²

First evidence was provided by family, twin and adoption studies that have estimated heritability rates for obesity to be up to 70%.¹ Although environmental changes have led to a rapid increase in the number of people living with obesity, a strong genetic component explains the large differences in body weight among individuals and affects how they respond to this obesogenic environment.²
