About us
Manufacturing USA was created in 2014 to secure U.S. global leadership in advanced manufacturing by connecting people, ideas, and technology. Manufacturing USA institutes convene business competitors, academic institutions, and other stakeholders to test applications of new technology, create new products, reduce cost and risk, and enable the manufacturing workforce with the skills of the future. The Manufacturing USA network is operated by the interagency Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office, which is headquartered in the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), in the Department of Commerce. The office operates in partnership with the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, NASA, the National Science Foundation, and the Departments of Education, Agriculture, Health and Human Services (HHS), and Labor.

Ever wondered why there are so many smokestacks polluting our air? Glenn Cormack is on a mission to change that! 💨🚫 As a Modern Maker, Glenn is passionate about finding cleaner ways for factories to process chemicals and make products. He's a former governing board chair of the RAPID Manufacturing Institute®, which is dedicated to reducing industrial pollution and making manufacturing more sustainable. RAPID, part of the Manufacturing USA network, is helping factories switch from old and slow production methods to newer, faster, and cleaner ones. As a Technical Fellow and Global Process Innovation Manager at The Lubrizol Corporation, Glenn's biggest challenge is figuring out how to keep the good parts of existing factories while making them more eco-friendly. He's working on retrofitting old equipment and developing new processes that use less energy and produce fewer emissions. A born problem solver who is passionate about mentoring the next generation, one of his favorite things is to building LEGO kits with his son. Thanks to Glenn and his work, we can hope for a healthier planet for everyone! Meet Modern Maker Alex M. Repucci, P.E., a Manufacturing Technology Specialist at 3M! He's basically a detective for new technologies that can make 3M's chemical plants safer, more efficient, and more eco-friendly. ♻️ Alex also works with 3M's sustainability team to figure out how to reduce carbon emissions way down the line. Alex is also a member of the RAPID Manufacturing Institute®, an organization that's all about making manufacturing greener and more efficient. Alex is a real leader in this group and loves tackling tough manufacturing challenges. Alex believes that the best solution isn't always the newest or most expensive thing. Sometimes, it's just about thinking creatively about the stuff you already have. 💡His advice to his 14-year-old self? Keep building with LEGOs! Oh, and Alex is also an amateur pilot! ✈️ Flying a small plane keeps his mind sharp and helps him stay on top of things, just like his work at 3M.
