Our Digital Crimes Unit (DCU) is actively disrupting the infrastructure of Star Blizzard, a persistent Russian nation-state actor behind numerous cyberattacks. Since at least 2022, this group has targeted NGOs, think tanks, and journalists, particularly those supporting Ukraine, using tactics like email credential theft. In collaboration with the U.S. Department of Justice, we are focused on countering Star Blizzard's operations and gathering intelligence to bolster security measures. As the group's adaptive strategies increasingly challenge cybersecurity efforts, we continue to emphasize the importance of coordination among governments, industry, and civil society to effectively combat these threats and uphold international norms against state-sponsored cyber activities. Our thoughts are with those affected by the recent storms that impacted Keaton Beach and surrounding areas. We ran our damage assessment AI models on images provided by NGS and have mapped out the affected buildings. If your organization would benefit from access to the underlying data in this report, please reach out to me. We are committed to sharing this information to support ongoing recovery efforts. We assessed 2,612 buildings in the Keaton Beach and Steinhatchee areas, with damage levels as follows: 124 buildings (4.75%) with damage fraction between 80% and 100% 43 buildings (1.65%) with damage fraction between 60% and 80% 43 buildings (1.65%) with damage fraction between 40% and 60% 58 buildings (2.22%) with damage fraction between 20% and 40% 2,344 buildings (89.73%) with damage fraction between 0% and 20% While the data provides a valuable first look, it should serve as a preliminary guide and will require on-the-ground verification for a complete understanding. Any building classified as >0% damaged likely has nearby debris and should be further inspected. The AI for Good Lab remains dedicated to helping impacted communities recover and stands ready to assist with data and insights that can accelerate relief efforts. “One of the great benefits of making most of our work public is that we really empower our customers, who are often on their own responsible AI journeys.” Hear from our Director of Responsible AI Practice, Stephanie Ballard, as we celebrate the 5-year anniversary of the Office of Responsible AI.
