Department of Mathematical Sciences at Stevens reposted this
Earlier this year, the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Stevens held its inaugural Industry Connection Series event. More than 60 participants in person and remotely joined the event, which aimed to connect students with alumni who have successfully transitioned into industry roles, showcasing how mathematicians can thrive in diverse sectors such as tech, insurance and healthcare. “The series is invaluable for students as it allows them to interact directly with industry professionals, ask questions about career paths and understand what courses and skills are most valued by employers,” said teaching assistant professor Hadi Safari Katesari. We had a meeting of the minds recently...
Last month, more than 25 mathematics experts from nearly 20 universities in the U.S., Europe and Israel came together at Stevens to explore the connections among the studies of geometric group theory, model theory and computer science. The first "Groups, Logic and Computation: Interactions Between Geometric Group Theory, Model Theory and Computer Science” Conference was sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and The Schaefer School of Engineering and Science. Mathematics professor Mahmood Sohrabi helped organize the conference. Dozens of graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty from around the world were on hand to hear the discussions and share their perspectives. Seven graduate students, including three from Stevens, also gave presentations – for some, their first opportunity to publicly share their research. Data Science Masters student, Gianangelo Dichio, recently completed the NJIT Hackathon with a group from Launchpad at Stevens! https://lnkd.in/eSQcgMy2
Launchpad's very own Anthony J Mauceri Gianangelo Dichio and Sebastian Dytrych competed in the 2024 hardware #hackathon hosted by IEEE NJIT Student Branch this past weekend. Applying their know-how to make city #infrastructure better, they came up with an elegant solution that allows all to know when the next bus is coming, without the need for an app. Inclusive, simple, and sustainable. In just a few hours, this is what they built...! 💣 https://lnkd.in/ec7nviNw #hardware #hackers #urban #accessibility #solar #design #build #launchpad
